The Corporation for Public Broadcasting Is Dead.

https://thenationalpulse.com/2...roadcasting-is-dead/

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), a private but congressionally funded nonprofit that financially supports the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR), announced it has begun the process of ending its operations as a result of the Trump White House’s rescissions request adopted by Congress in July.

The rescissions package clawed back much of the CPB’s government funding, with future financial backing being dropped entirely in the Senate Appropriations Committee’s Fiscal Year 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-H) appropriations legislation.

“Despite the extraordinary efforts of millions of Americans who called, wrote, and petitioned Congress to preserve federal funding for CPB, we now face the difficult reality of closing our operations,” CPB President and CEO Patricia Harrison said in a statement. She continued: “CPB remains committed to fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities and supporting our partners through this transition with transparency and care.” “Public media has been one of the most trusted institutions in American life, providing educational opportunity, emergency alerts, civil discourse, and cultural connection to every corner of the country.

We are deeply grateful to our partners across the system for their resilience, leadership, and unwavering dedication to serving the American people,” Harrison added. According to the CPB, it has informed most of its staff that their positions will be eliminated by September 30, 2025, the conclusion of the fiscal year. However, the taxpayer-funded nonprofit says a small number of employees will remain in place through January 2026 to “closeout” its operations.

Guess those who enjoy the left-wing news will have to watch MSNBC. If viewers want shows they should make them be paid subscribers like Netflix Disney etc. Get the taxpayer funding out of PBS.

Had they lived up to their original charter of being fair in reporting and non-partisan in outlook, then probably none of this would had ever happened. They brought this upon themselves, and now deserve it; actions have consequences.

Just to be clear, it is not PBS that is shutting down, it is the Corporation for Public Broadcasting that is shutting down by the end of the year. They fund both PBS and NPR, but not entirely, both entities get additional funding from private sources as well. But this will, without a doubt, be a huge blow to PBS and NPR.

I grew up watching a lot of PBS, as it was what my folks preferred. I have not watched much of it in the last twenty years.

I have watched Frontline and American Experience programs relatively recently. Those programs are hosted on PBS, but can be seen elsewhere as well. Same for Ken Burns' stuff.

I think PBS has no shortage of private donors, which could rally and keep it afloat in a temporary or reduced manner.

Gee, Patty, when you've convinced yourself of horse crap statements like that, it's little wonder nobody but a corrupt Congress was willing to give you money to spew leftist propaganda on the radio.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass.

Just like Donald Trump said in a speech at CPAC in 2023, "I am your retribution," and this is part of that retribution. You leftist shitbags earned this.

I think she meant to say "Despite the extraordinary efforts of millions of American dollars spent to petition Congress...".

I believe the leftward tilt at PBS began during the Clinton Administration when women were put in senior executive positions, including eventually CEO level. I essentially stopped watching when Maryland Public Television fired Louis Rukeyser of Wall Street Week and changed the format after his firing. Rukeyser spoke eloquently of the capitalist system and its benefits for investors, probably anathema to the lefties.

According to pbs themselves, only about 15% of their budget comes from the US government; why then is it so hard to stay afloat? That 15% would be easy to offset by firing bloated salary employees at the top. I guess serving the public isn’t as noble as it is corrupted.

Of course PBS isn't going anywhere. What's happening, though, is that America-hating leftists are losing their jobs, and all the people associated with PBS see this happening, and that's a very good thing.

I hope they are forced to give WRAS back to Georgia State and 88.5 Album 88 is back on the terrestrial.

It was lefty before that, at least NPR was. But not as much, and not as blatantly.

The more I experience life, the more I think the Bible and original US systems of authority and voting were wise…

My thoughts exactly.
PBS and its various entities can continue onward, they just need to re-evaluate the compensation packages their senior staffers and executives are receiving. As we've seen with all the problematic non-profit organizations, where the majority of donated money ends up going to support payroll costs and overhead, and only a fraction of donated funds are directed towards the stated beneficiaries. Considering that many of the PBS executives and viewers run in the same progressive circles, I would wager that payroll at PBS and its flagship programs have compensation numbers comparable to commercial broadcasting and streaming services.

I happen to enjoy PBS, I grew up on Sesame Street and the many other children's programing, today I look forward to the many travel, nature and food programs however as others have pointed-out, they jumped the shark when News Hour and NPR openly editorialized the news content and willfully presented skewed and distorted information. I'm sure there's already a clique of fund managers at Gates Foundation, Tides Foundation, Ford Foundation and various other progressive private-funds ready to backfill the public money loss.
