The wife and I went out the other night, which we haven't done in a while due to one issue or another and she wanted to go to the movies. We went to a local movie theater we have been to many times in the past and this time it was weird. I mean, the place was darker than it usually is/was and the place seemed warm and had a musty smell to it,even though they said they had micro particle air filters/units. It didn't seem like it. Granted it has been closed for many months due to covid and I am sure it took it's toll. The staff was friendly but all kids, I would say less than 20 at least.

Anyway, I went to the restroom prior to the movie started and the urinals/area was closed and then most of the toilets didn't work- handles were obviously broken and inoperable. They painted over the wallpaper to give it a fresh look but it made it look worse.

Next, the movie signs next to the refreshment stand were not working, telling you where/which theater the movies were playing and neither was the lighted-individual units just outside each movie theater. Some of the lighted units were not even there and wires were just hanging out of where they should be.

We finally found our theater but the lights were not on inside and it was really dark. They had the floor lights/markers on but it did not help and we had to use our phones to light the way. It was warm inside the theater and not very comfortable to be in. I spoke with one of the kids working there but I don't think it did any good.as the temperature didn't seem to change.

The whole experience has changed and almost felt like some type of weird apocalypse happened inside the place. Odd coincidence, we saw The Quiet Place part 2 and it felt like we were living the movie. It is a shame, as that theater used to be a really nice place to go when you had nothing else to do.

Haven't been since Ford v Ferrari came out, but a brand new theater just opened about 2 miles from my house over the weekend. Lot was pretty full when we drove by.

Might give it a shot, just for the close proximity, but would prefer the couple extra miles to the Star Cinema Grill instead. Semi-private booths of 2 & food/drink on the menu.

If they had anything worth showing, I'd be rooting for them to recover. As it stands, with the putrid PC crap- absolute SHIT- they're showing these days, I hope they close down and never reopen. I mean that- NEVER, and this comes from a huge fan of the cinema.

There's a Regal Cinema very convenient to me, but I thought it had shut down for good when the Scamdemic was declared. The church I go to broadcasts a satellite service there on Sundays...I saw that was going on a few weeks ago, but thought the theater was still shut down permanently for movies.

I see now it has opened back up and the website is listing movies, but in looking at the movies available on their website, I can honestly say I don't think I'll be frequenting that establishment anytime soon.

The big Regal in the area has closed.

The only ones even barely making it are the Movie Tavern types.

Movie theaters were struggling even before Covid, I think this pandemic was the final nail in their coffin, they just don’t know it yet.

Streaming direct to the home is going to end movie theaters as we knew them once and for all.

Haven’t been since the craziness started. Don’t miss them, doubt I will ever go again. For the price of two tickets, drinks, etc. I can buy the movie and watch it the comfort of my own home.

I should state that even BEFORE the Plandemic Scamdemic was announced, my attendance at a movie theater was probably 1 in 5 years, at best.

I live in walking distance to our newest multi screen theater. Huge parking lot. I would guess the most cars I have seen there recently has been 25 or 30. I have not been there in years and no plan to return.

I've not been to a movie theater in several years. No movies I wanted to watch. No idea how they are doing financially.

There are few movies for which we'd have been willing to pay the price of admission even if the obnoxious behavior of "fellow" movie-goers, the ear-bustingly loud sound, and the lack of intermission hadn't already turned us completely off to the experience.

I don't think we've even been tempted to go out to the movies in over twenty years.

So, honestly have no idea how the movie theaters are doing.

They are open, but as noted above sadly lacking in new content worth one's time.

Our favorite nearby theater has two means of putting butts in seats that aren't dependent on the current wokesters in Hollywood getting their act together:

1, a "rent the entire theater for $99 bucks" deal (10 people) wherein you yourself bring the movie content (sign onto something you can stream, bring a Blu-Ray, etc.), and they just play it on their big screen, and

2, a retro cinema where they show actually excellent movies from the past, as "Flashback Cinema". Think "Godfather I", "Patton", "Back to the Future I", "Star Trek Wrath of Khan" - that level of film. They used to do "Flashback Cinema" in the evenings but with the popularity of #1 above, it bumped them to matinees but reduced the ticket price to $5.

My wife and I went to see King Kong for shits and giggles. Buying a ticket was on the honor system. There were the wife and I plus two others in the theater.

Say what? Care to explain this? Since when does any American corporation just "trust you" when it comes to money?

My brother and his family rented a local 2nd run theater where for $10 per person they played the blue ray movie you brought (image quality generally very good, but not outstanding) and got a medium soda and small popcorn. He did this at least 4-5 times and we joined them twice.

Commercially-speaking, most theaters opens, but very limited selections, which I don't think will get much better for another few months. I wish more theaters would reprise classic fan favorites (like Aliens, The Shining), as they seem to semi-fill the theaters.

The truth is that American theater chains have no idea what Americans want to see. The same goes for the clueless PC apes in Hollywood, and I do mean clueless.

I don't go to movies very often because there are very few I am willing to pay to see. We did go see "Cruella," which was probably the first movie I attended in two years.

(It was a solid entertainment, by the way, if not an artistic achievement. Still, it was better than I expected. Emma Stone and Emma Thompson turned in good performances. Excellent soundtrack, too.)

But the theater was not crowded. Not for any of the movies playing. I can't imagine they can continue with that few customers.

With modern home-entertainment systems and quality popcorn machines, why spend $50 - $75 to take your family to the cinema? Years ago surround sound and 4KHD+ were a novelty for homeowners - now they are an affordable staple in most homes.

Like music the film industry is going to have to evolve, there are just too many alternatives out there to have to pay $20 a person to go a theater.

With 80 inch 4K sets and streaming services, the demand to go pay and sit in someone elses building with other people, some of which are just rude or clueless ruining the experience when you can watch it 30 to 90 days later at home...

No kidding. The wife and I paid but we had to chase down an employee to pay. Weird as all get out. (Century 16 was the chain) This was about a month ago.
