I'm looking for something, perhaps I'll have to make it, that allows rifles to be stacked horizontally, side by side, ideally with another stackable row on top of it.

I've got some temporary storage options but it's not on a wall it's gonna be down in a storage area for many of my collection until I can get a house built.

A series of these stands would be easy to bang out in an afternoon with some lumber and basic tools like a chop saw or circular saw, a jigsaw or even a hole saw, a drill/driver, and some screws.

Then either buy or fabricate a sturdy 2 to 3 tier garage shelving unit and put your stands on the shelves, and the rifles on the stands.

Now you have stacked horizontal rifle racks.

Maybe fabricate something like a crate/case/footlocker like box like was shown many years ago in the old western movies when the boxes carrying the rifles were broken into and the rifles were snatched up and distributed out..... Depending on the number of rifles inside might make the weight might be a problem for 1 person to move around.................................... drill sgt.

Not a rack, but provides good stackable storage and transport.

There is also a shorter version that is good for millsurp bolt actions for example. Rifles go in a silicone gun sock. Use bubble wrap for cushion, and vinyl sheet for water protection when moving.

Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but gun-racks dot com makes some good stuff. I have one of their 4 position pistol racks for my safe.

This, coupled with some handmade wooden dividers, or 3d printed ones, similar to what Rogue posted might be the ticket.

Jobox, lockable, just lay the rifles on a blanket, weaving it in and around each long gun. Then lay another blanket and start a second row. Lay some ammo in the bottom to make it heavy or even drill it and fix it to the floor, then lay the ammo and rifles
