If you’re following social media, you likely know that on the opening day of Equip Expo 2022 (formerly GIE), a prototype DeWalt battery-powered zero-turn lawn mower ignited and caught fire. Fortunately, we are not aware of any injuries. While it makes for exciting headlines and lots of conversation, I believe there are some points worth adding.
DEWALT LAWN MOWER FIRE CONTEXT First of all, this was a prototype DeWalt Ascent battery-powered zero-turn lawn mower—not a final production model. In speaking with Stanley Black & Decker President, Christine Potter following the press conference announcing the mower, she told us that designing this is even more complex than an electric vehicle. In addition to the drive systems that need to be in place, you’re adding spinning blades along with making it far tougher for the environment it has to thrive in.
While you don’t expect an issue on this level with your prototypes, you do expect to find areas that need improvement. That’s why you have a prototype phase in the design process.

This EV bullshit needs to go. Failed 100+ years ago, failing now.

There is no way that the World is ready for a "Green Revolution" and dependence on renewable energy. They'd have to pave the entire US with solar cells and wind farms and still have an unreliable energy source. Energy storage is still a huge problem (high yield batteries are dangerous and I doubt enough could be made to handle the power grid here). The US has ample stores of fossil fuels and we should be using them now for our energy needs, while working on finding alternatives (that work). And buying oil from other countries is a big mistake, when we have so much of it here in the US. The Greenies are idiots, deluded by a religious fixation on Climate Change.

Look at all those hay bales ready to ignite in what looks to be a pretty good wind.

What about Tesla house batteries that come with solar systems. If the house gets flooded, any risk? Are EV excluded from flood damage coverage?

Fires are the number one reason why I will not be on board with all this EV nonsense. Most of the complaints I read have been proven wrong but fires are real.

Hell, you won't even have to so much as push a button to make it catch fire, or even be there! It'll go into incinerator mode just sitting in your shed. PHOOM! Ain't that sumthin'?
