Anybody who's been involved in the 'gun industry' either at retail, wholesale or, instruction, has seen an uptick in 'non-white' users and participants over the last decade. Around here, classes for basic pistol and CCW have filled-up, principally with Asian gun owners get sick and tired of being intimidated, assaulted and robbed by black criminals. | |||

In the Memphis area friends of mine in the gun sales business are seeing a tremendous uptick in the number of black/hispanic purchasers, as well as blacks/hispanics who are getting advanced training beyond the requirements to conceal carry. Turns out that regardless of your skin color, decent people get sick of criminals and their crap, I suppose. I don't work in a gun range but judging by the amount of black shooters the last few times to the range, I think blacks aren't too keen on the black criminals either(and then some). Just saying. And the range reserves the right to run the DLs of everyone renting a lane. Of course this all seems predictable w/ the Leftist Defund the Police movement. | |||

Absolutely regardless of race, good people are getting tired of seeing their family and friends getting pushed around by criminals while law enforcement/criminal justice departments simply give a mealy mouthed excuse for 'building a better world' while 'seeking equitable justice'. Around the greater SF Bay Area, a giant chunk of crimes are disproportionately being perpetrated by one racial group against another, meanwhile a different racial group simply shrugs its shoulders or, is complicit in a warped sense of social realignment. Coming together is not happening out here and good people are getting themselves some blasters and training. Next step is to see what this upcoming election brings. | |||

Unfortunately my experience as a firearms instructor in Chicago, has shown me that training minorities does NOT equate to them converting to Republicans. The hatred for Republicans does not diminish with firearms training, they still blame Republicans for everything wrong with society. They still march to the Democratic leaderships BS. I couldn't stand it any longer and retired. | |||

Well here we are, more and more not old white straight Christians are buying guns, and the only people still calling for bans and restrictions and more laws are the grabbers from before.

For years the grabbers have been saying "When black people start arming themselves, then we'll see gun control!" IIRC, most of the first gun control laws were aimed at African Americans and Natives. I remember one fool academic a few years ago that the gov't had precedent to ban weapons based on bans on Natives in the 19th Century- an argument against bans if there ever was one. “Posterity! Minorities have been purchasing firearms for decades, you may not see them on the range and you may not see them in NRA classes but we've been buying firearms for as long as anyone else. | |||

The GCA of 68 was targeted at the Black Panthers. The NRA Fudds supported it, as did Republicans like Nixon and Reagan. The '86 New Machine Gun ban was based on the media-inspired fantasy that drug gangs were shooting each other with machine guns on a daily basis, despite the fact that no legally possessed MG's had ever been used in crime. The '89 import ban was also focused on drug gangs and the generally high crime rate at that time. | |||

I think the difference (for minorities in major metropolitan areas) is that today, a lot of areas that had prohibited concealed carry and/or handgun ownership (like IL and Chicago, specifically) are now allowing it. The fact is that a lot people had handguns, but they were illegal to own. Thus, they simply did not go to the range. Up until Concealed Carry was legalized in IL, there were very few ranges in the immediate Chicago area. Now, with the establishment of CCW in IL, folks in Chicago can have handguns. The change in the law has brought a lot of new ranges. Add to the fact that CCW has training requirements, the COVID gun panic purchases, and the increase in lawlessness have all greatly contributed to minority and non-minority gun purchases. __________________________ "just look at the flowers..." | |||

You may have a point in regards to firearm ownership in places like Chicago but I've been carrying since the late 90's and I know of many other minorities with carry permits. Both my grand fathers owned firearms, my dad owned firearms and lots of my friends families owned firearms. I'm sure more minorities are starting to see the need to own a firearm than in the past but like I stated earlier minorities owning firearms is nothing new. With that said anyone who didn't own a firearm that has now seen the light and purchased a firearm is a good thing regardless the color of their skin or who they vote for. | |||
