In less than five minutes, Japan went from advancing to receding tide in its quest for conquest. The story is riveting for its drama and its consequences, the tragic sacrifice of the torpedo bombers and the skin-of-the-teeth success of the dive bombers.

Here is a good article, from Naval Aviation:
Naval Aviation: The Miracle at Midway

Yes, quite a turn around.

I always liked this quote, ( though it was spoken after seeing the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack )

"Before we're through with them, the Japanese language will be spoken only in Hell."
--Vice Admiral William F. "Bull" Halsey

I was always amazed at the determination of the Torpedo groups during the Battle of Midway.

"Also I heard the voice of the Lord saying who shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, here am I, send me."

Thank you Commander Rochefort, you sneaky son-of-a-gun.

... Brilliant.

As Clay Blair said in Silent Victory Commander Rochefort's reward for quite possibly the most significant piece of naval intelligence of the century was command of a floating drydock.

The whole story of trolling the Japanese with a message sent en clair that Midway was short of water was brilliant. When they decrypted in effect "AF is short of water" it confirmed the target was Midway.
