Went to the cardiologist for a checkup. First in 9 years.... Truthfully would not have gone then were it not for increased nagometer readings from the wife. He did bloodwork, since I haven't had that in years. Cholesterol and triglycerides were very elevated (395 and >1200, respectively). He wants me to start on Rosuvastatin, but all I hear are bad things about statin drugs. I "bargained" my way into a 90 day reprieve to lose weight and start exercising. If I make significant progress, he may agree with letting the statin slide. i've read that this one can cause muscle cramps and wasting, kidney issues, and GI issues (nausea, cramps, etc). Any sigforumites on Crestor, and if so, what side effects if any do you experience? ________________________________________________ "You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. I asked my doc about it before I started taking it, and she said that any problems with with it would be obvious, and if they came up, you just quit taking it, no harm no foul. Or something along those lines, IIRC. Lover of the US Constitution Wile E. Coyote School of DIY Disaster

My Doctor started me on Crestor this year because my bad cholesterol is too high. Started at 5 mg and later moved to 10mg. I had leg cramps before and they didn't get worse. The Crestor cramps are different, not as painfull. I'll get tested in a few months to see if there is any improvement. ================================================ Ultron: "You're unbearably naive." Vision: "Well, I was born yesterday."

Started with Lipitor, but proved ineffective for lowering MY ldl. Switched to Crestor and all is well. Have been on it for 10 or so years without nary a complaint. My cholesterol hovers around 160 - 180 and the balance is much better; ldl is below 100. You're asking for experiences, and this is mine. If I had numbers like yours I'd be taking Crestor without consideration, currently, about any side effects. But then again, I have had no negative effects. ========================================== Just my 2¢ ____________________________ Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right ♫♫♫

Over time (since 2002) I have progressed though all of the statins, all except Crestor caused muscle pains when dosages were high enough to control my lipids. I now take 5mg of Crestor and seem to be tolerating it well. In my case at least it has taken several months to develop the muscle crap symptoms. Muscle cramps are quite common symptoms in those doing heavy lifting.

Look at the stats in the PDR as to side effects. You will have a much larger sample size than this Forum. Rhabdomyolosis is pretty bad if you get it, but it is rare. Your numbers are pretty high so back off the two pounds of bacon you eat daily. LOL

Been on 10mg of Crestor or the generic for 5 years. I take a COQ10 capsule with it. No side effects for me. I get blood work every 6 months to check kidney function. I started on Lipitor and the side effects kicked in within 3 days. Good luck on your 90 day mission. I just did one for something else and got the doc off my back. Bad genetics will keep me on Crestor forever.

I was a lipitor user for about 12 years. Great total cholesterol and LDL numbers but I always had crummy HDL. My doc when I lived in Canada switched me over to Crestor because it's known to improve your HDL by 10%. Still have outstanding total cholesterol and LDL numbers, and my HDL did improve 10% which is still below "normal." I used actual Crestor my 2 years in Canada, and when I moved back to the US 3 years ago my insurance insisted I get the generic which costs more than I paid for the real deal in Canada. Can't tell the difference in lab tests or the way I feel, but paying more for generic ticks me off. I've been using Crestor for quite a few years, with no apparent side effects. My doctor chose Crestor to fit with my other meds, and it appears to be a good fit. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

Type 2 Diabetes is showing up in high dose long term use of all Statins for some people. I am a victim of Simvastatin high dose use & when I stopped taking Simvastatin my A1C dropped 1.5 points. Fish Oil & Gemfibrozil has helped my high Cholesterol. __________________________________________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit! I started on Lipitor it dropped my cholesterol number from 210 to 160 in weeks. However I had joint pain so bad I couldn’t sleep. Went to Crestor, and still had pain. NOw on pravastatin. It seems to work ok, but no where near as effective as Lipitor. Then Type 2 diabetes popped up. I don’t have much discipline in maintaining a proper diet. In January of this year, my doctor put me on Metformin and Rosuvastatin (for T2 diabetes and high cholesterol, respectively). I'm opposed to taking medications, and since I didn't think I fit either profile, re-started my diet and exercise lifestyle. Six months later, my A1C is just at the pre-diabetic mark, and my cholesterol nearly normal. My doctor and I have decided that if I continue on this path, she'll take me off both in October. My doc started me on the Crestor generic (Rosuvastatin), minimum doseage, 5mg daily. My wife's doc had her on Atorvastatin (Lipitor generic). I discovered that my co-pay for Rosuvastatin was ten times as much as my wife's co-pay for Atorvastatin. We are on the same insurance plan. I asked my pharmacist about it, he said that one was as good as the other, so I asked my doc about it and he had been unaware of the cost difference. He switched me to the lower cost Atorvastatin (the Lipitor generic). My cholesterol numbers stay about the same with either drug, I have not experienced any side effects with either, but remember that I am on the minimum dose. The one thing that I do not like: grapefruit in any form is a forbidden fruit with any statin. One of my innocent pleasures prior to starting on the statins was a glass of cold grapefruit juice at breakfast. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

My Doctor started me on Pravastatin about 3 going on 4 weeks ago. Haven't been tested yet since but my goal is to get off. I certainly do not want to move up the ladder to Crestor or Lipitor. I have dramatically revamped my diet as well as exercise schedule. Battling Hypertension at the same time so both could be related. It's pretty cheap and still determining if there are side effects.

I’ve been on rosuvastatin for the past 8 years without any side effects, either physical or from a liver or kidney issue. I first started at 5mg and went up to 10mg. Both the medications and diet adjustments put me in the black in terms of cholesterol numbers. I like it and don’t have any reason to stop it. Side effects can obviously happen, but you asked for personal experience and that is mine. It’s obvious, but medications cannot overcome a bad diet and lack of exercise, whether we’re speaking about hypertension, diabetes, or high cholesterol. Being on medications is not carte blanche to eat whatever we want. As we age we may need some additional help that modern medicine can offer. Good luck on your journey to better health!

Since 2010 when I had my first series of strokes, I have been on Crestor. And I have not experienced zero side effects, and my cholesterol numbers and triglycerides are very well controlled. I would say that you should take the medicine, and also control your diet and exercise, you should be ok. And thinking too much about possible side-effects might cause you physcosomatic symptoms, essentially imaginary symptoms. If you think you can, YOU WILL!!!!!

started Atorvastatin and my entire body felt like I had been hit by a bus - literally I was in severe pain I called the doc and told him I was going to stop because I felt better when I wasn't taking his miracle drug that was about 8 years ago and I feel better not taking the drug, and will resist all efforts to put me on another one [B] Against ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC
