PA - 2A friendly county? Login/Join

Looking to move to the Philly area. From what I understand, inside Philly is not 2A friendly. But.. how about the surrounding counties? Montgomery? Bucks? Looking to stay North and East of Philly.

Thanks in advance

Montgomery County, where I reside, is fairly 2A friendly, IMO. Carry permits are gotten without much hassle and aren't expensive (~$25 or so) and are good for 5 years before you need to renew. There are also a decent number of gun clubs and ranges.

Same with Bucka county. Pretty much all the rest as well.

Open carry is legal without a permit. (Except Philly of course)

AS above, yes. I'll add it's a shall issue state. CC lisc are issued by Co sheriffs. You can find and have class III items. Currently none of the goofy firearm or magazine restrictions.

Currently?!?!! Don't tell me there is a movement to go in that direction!! This is what I am trying to get away from. Maybe I should skip PA entirely and go to North Carolina or Texas now.....

Nah, you read more than I intended in that word. Did not mean to lead you away.

You're as good here as anywhere, each generation has to pay attention and stand for whats right or in a decade or two any state can become complacent and surrender liberty under the guise of safety. Move in and vote to keep us a free state Smile

Ok. 2A is not the key driver for my move. It's really the taxes. Property tax is half for a comparable property... sometimes 70% off. It's just NUTS here in NY. And NJ thinks it's a race to see who can raise it higher. Good Lord, I can't take it anymore.

Washington county isn't quite a reasonable commute to Philly. Wink

OP: Chester is fine too. Carry permits are as easy to be had for around $24. FYI, Delaware county is also just as easy as Chesco for permits. I've had permits in both counties (as well as Cumberland).

Chester is a bit cheaper than Delco, on the whole, for cost of living.

I've narrowed it down to the Allentown-Bethlehem-Corridor. Nice quite areas and I like the people I've met during my scouting trip.

Read that the Mayor of Bethlehem is anti-2A and part of the coalition with Bloomberg... the Mayors for more gun control. Has that changed? I read that the Mayors of Allentown and Easton see things the same.
Need area people's 2 cents.
Thanks in advance

Does not matter. In PA no city, town or locality may enact gun control legislation that is more restrictive than standard statewide law.

Slight thread drift. Bethlehem has the greatest ice cream shop I've ever been to - Nuts About Ice Cream. When I get that way, which is once or twice a year when I visit my daughter in Reading, we go there. Very unique flavors, and the owner is great. Every time I walk in, he greets me, "It's my friend from New Mexico!"

Hi Dave,

I live in the Lehigh Valley and would be happy to share my knowledge with you about this area, including the best LGS’s to shop at and ranges to visit / join.

The Lehigh County Sheriff is very pro-2A and the staff in his office are friendly and helpful.

For good information on guns laws in PA go to PAFOA.

Shoot me an e-mail.

Best regards,

Rob

I live in Washington County, would be a bitch of a commute, without a plane. I never knew the city of Philly had different rules. The mayor of Pittsburgh, Bicycle Bill Peduto, has tried to do the same thing in the city of Pittsburgh. Using the Tree of Life shooting for all he can get out of it.

I can confirm that Lehigh county is very good with 2A. Sherriff is very 2A supportive.

Tip: car insurance is more expensive in Bucks vs Lehigh. Closer to Philly, and rates go up.

I might have to disagree with you. Nuts place is interesting, but "The Cup" on Linden St. is very good! You got to try it sometime; very close to the Nuts place. The other family favorite is "Ow wow Cow" near Lake Nockamixon.

More thread drift. . .

One of my favorites is Premise Maid ice cream in Breinigsville, PA (just west of Allentown).

Dave, in regard to the the idea of commuting to Philly...RT309, especially from Allentown to Quakertown sucks. The turnpike is vastly superior, especially since it has been opened up to three lanes south of Quakertown.

Another good one! So is "The Inside Scoop" in Coopersburg. Sorry for the thread drift.

Suggest you avoid the ABE corridor south to Philly unless you like crowds and the ever growing influx of NY/NJ residents (the less likable ones that is Wink .

Consider Southern Berks county - close proximity to commute, suburban/rural; more Red than not - just avoid Reading and you'll do fine.

I'm in N. Berks at the Berks-Schuylkill border - can be at my range in 10 minutes!
