My most recent IFR rating client took an early am flight today down near Leadville. He had a complete engine failure. Plenty of fuel onboard, so its undetermined as to what caused it. Both occupants received minor scratches etc, no major injuries. I had him in the habit of briefing for things like this prior to takeoff. They were picked up by a nearby helicopter that heard his mayday call on 121.5.

I just spent 3 hours with him Saturday in this bird. He passed his IFR check-ride, and the plane had been inspected the week before. Timing is everything in life..

Looks like he managed energy well, and continued to fly it all the way down to the ground. Good on him and you; great skills and a cool head!

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing

And the other

It’s better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air then it is to be in the air wishing you were on the ground.

Glad it worked out as well as it did. The insurance company may get to keep this one, but that’s why we pay the premiums.

I thought this thread was about the baseball team...

Glad it wasn't worse. Looks like he remembered his emergency landing instructions/checklist!

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

And he flew it all the way through the crash as evidenced by the condition of passengers and airplane. Well done.

Not good terrain for an engine out. Glad all are OK.
