Hit a deer on my BMW K16GTL back in 2020 and it earned me a trip to the ER with a broken leg, dislocated ankle and a totaled motorcycle. Not a fun experience and not one Id care to repeat.

My dad hit one in his Ford Crown Vic, FL deer are a bit smaller, several grand in damage but driveable.

See them from time to time on road sides, apparently the grass between the fences and the road is better to eat.

That is concerning at night coming home from Daytona on the back roads.

Wondered about having a Katana mounted to the front of the bike, slice those suckers right in half, of course that would be a bit messy.

Had one bolt across a local city road, no where near woods, it ran down the opposite side and then across, ABS really helped haul the bike down, luck I wasn't moving fast....

I would score this one for the Tacoma. Both combatants are unable to continue, but the Toyota likely has more salvageable components.

A shame about the truck- it’s obviously a goner. The most important part is no injuries. Stuff can be replaced.

I would say that is totaled. My wife totaled a 2019 Terrain 2 years ago on a deer. Not nearly as much damage as the Taco.
My nephew works in auto body. He said the higher parts cost on newer vehicles results in more totaled insurance claims. Less work for him.

Similar incident with my wife, her 2017 Buick Enclave, which she loved, and a deer intent on crossing the road back in June of2024. Deer came out of a slough, hit the right front corner, headlight, bumper cover, RF fender and damaged the right front door and hood and the windshield. Called two of her brothers, one came with a gun and dispatched the animal, the other came with a truck and trailer. Car drove onto the trailer. Short answer was, over $15,000 damage on a 7 year old vehicle with just over 100K mileage. Took State Farm 2 weeks to decide to total it. Guessing from the picture on the OP, the truck did its job and gave it's life for your sister. Glad she's OK, but Toyota is still making Tacomas, just like Buick is still turning out Enclaves. We're on our 3rd one now. Good luck with the insurance company.

Invest in a deer catcher.

I blasted a modest sized deer with a 2018 Toyota Tacoma late last year.
I continued driving the truck for weeks after the deer smack while waiting for the insurance company, initial body shop estimate, and parts delivery.
I did have to zip tie some flopping body trim parts in place and zip tie a block of scrap wood behind the left headlight module so you could see driving at night.
Headlight aim on the left side was straight down at the road five feet in front of the bumper before I added the scrap wood.
Mine was WAY less damage than the above pic, and my bill was almost $7000 with $500 deductible.
So your sisters Tacoma looks totaled to me.

My Tacoma, I don't even fool around with the State Farm Authorized/Approved Repair Centers.
I drove the truck straight to the nearby Toyota Dealer, that's the only way to get new OEM Toyota parts, and not used junkyard parts or aftermarket stuff.
I'm glad your sister is OK.
Did she say anything about needing new underwear after the collision?

Holy shit! That is an insane amount of damage. I drive a similar truck. While I'm glad she's ok, that picture makes me sad.
