I thought there was a thread on this a while ago but couldn’t find it.

I’m looking for a good, durable water hose for use around the house. We use our hoses quite a bit and need something better than the garden variety you find at Lowe’s etc.

I’m looking for a 100 ft hose, or maybe two as our yard is pretty large.

What does the SF braintrus reccomend?
Thanks.

You can have one custom made that is of much more high quality than typical residential quality, see if you have a commercial/industrial supply business in your area.

Rural King sells a 100' farm hose that I've used for years. Runs about $25 and it is high quality. I imagine Tractor Supply has something similar.

Craftsman Premium Rubber hoses are my weapon of choice.
I have a red one and a black one. Both are great.

Sam's Club has that brand as well for about the same price. Word of warning, the inside of the hose isn't smooth and require some trimming with a fillet knife. I didn't need a 100' hose, so I bought some fittings, cut the hose in a 75' piece and a 25' piece. That's when I discovered the ribbed interior of the hose wouldn't seal around the fittings. The ribs are part of the anti-kink feature.

Go down to your local firehouse and find out where they buy their hoses locally. Go to that vendor and get them to make up a double-walled rubber hose to your desired length with crimped on fittings. Mine have lasted forty years and are still as good as new except for scratches on the brass fittings.

^^^^^^^ This!!!

35+ years ago I went to a local rubber specialty co.(Catawba Rubber in Charlotte, NC) to make a similar hose using 150# steam hose w/ machined brass ends.

Not the cheapest way to go --- but you will never, ever have to buy a replacement hose!

I recently replaced my hose with a 50' Continental black hose. Bought from Home Depot for just under $24.

So far been really impressed by it feel and ability to roll up (it is very flexible).

Goodyear (now Continental) rubber hoses last and last. Here in AZ, with its intense sun, ours lay outside for years and years. The surface does get looking a bit grungy after 5 years or so, but the integrity of the hose is intact. I believe (but am not sure) that the Craftsman rubber hoses are rebranded Goodyears. I have some Goodyears that have been outside for over 10 years.

NeverKink Series 3000 from Amazon. So far no complaints, but I've only had it for two+ years, unlike others here.

Dad gave me a 50' "Zero-G" brand hose. Flexible, lightweight, and quality connections. I'd probably buy another one. It's slightly susceptible to kinking but not much more than the average hose. I just like that I can roll it up and fit it in a car wash bucket.

Come to think of it this is a great topic. The hoses I use especially in this South Florida sun and out on the pool deck get so stiff and ridged after a period of time. I'd be interested in a very good hose that I can coil up, save in space if possible, and last. I ended up taking the wall hose hanging device off the wall when we painted the house so I just coil it up currently, but the wife drags it out all the time to water her fruit trees and leaves it stretched out which I may not notice for awhile and they sit in the sun and cook. Are those flexible coil up ones good that are advertised on TV good or some others? Thanks for posting this thread reminder...it's that time again to replace the pool deck hose Razz
