I am redoing my family room and had pretty much decided on a matching set of recliners to face the television. I was looking at powered units that recline, have headrest tilt, and adjustable lumbar support. I've done a fair amount of research and looked in person at four recliner brands at area retailers:

La-Z-Boy, which has gotten a fairly bad rap here and elsewhere.

Smith Brothers, which is a US made chair.

Palliser, which is a Canadian made chair.

Flexsteel, which is either Chinese or Mexican but has gotten raving reviews here on the forum, with mixed reviews elsewhere.

But then today I'm surfing around Youtube, and come across a review for theater seating. I'm sure there are others out there as well, but this particular company is Valencia Theater Seating. They appear to be a Canadian company that started in Italy, but likely has production in China. They have all of the same features of the recliners I was looking at, but some additional toys and at half the price. They have outstanding reviews online.

Anybody have any experience with this company or even this type of furniture being used outside of a dedicated home theater? I would likely be using these daily.

When I redid my theater in 2019 I went with Octane seating. My guy at the main Magnolia center here said to go with manual as the powered versions (in anything) tend to break. Don’t know if that is 100 or not but my seats have been great. Got a set of 3. It is very murky to look at the seating options. There isn’t a clear consensus anywhere

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

A few months ago I had shoulder surgery and had to buy an electric recliner to sleep in for 10 weeks. I bought an American brand recliner (Can't find the name tag right now) $1200. The first one broke the day of surgery and it took 4 weeks to get a replacement. It is comfortable for a while, but overnight sleeping not so much. Also, if you buy electric make sure there is a battery back up. Twice I was stuck in the chair when the power went out. Electric are very slow opening and closing.

I bought the wife a power recliner, as she has mobility issues and she loves it. The downsides are few- chairs feel a little rigid and not as soft as standard recliners due to the mechanisms/framework, price, and the biggest one for me, is size/length. My wife is about 5'4" and I am 6',so shopping for a chair was no big deal for her. For me, there were only a couple of stores that had power recliners that my feet would not hang off of,which can be problematic and make long term sitting/sleeping uncomfortable.
