Left with just a band of hair around the sides and back I decided to finally join the Head Shavers Club. Opted to do so before I started to gain a tan which would have left the whitewall look. I'm curious what those who shave the dome like in in the way of product or blades.

I belong to Dollar Shave Club and the shave butter is awesome but not cheap.

And what about sunscreen?

I get razor burn too bad when I shave shave, so I just clipper it with a pair of wahl peanuts every week or so. Generally just wear a hat outdoors to prevent sunburn and sweat dripping in my face.

I started out shaving w/ schick 2 blade, then 3 blade and gel. When it got to 4 blades and I had to buy a new handle, and the price kept going up, I had enough.

Because I shaved only once a week, the hair around the sides and back would clog it and they also wouldn't last as long compared to just shaving my face.

Now I use an Edwin Jagger DE safety razor (mostly, out of a handful of DE's) as the blades are cheap by the 100 pk.
I also prefer shaving soap and shave brush over the mass produced goo, but the disposables and goo did the job when I was starting out.

I limit my time in the sun as some is good but I usually have a cap we me.

I use a 5 blade Schick Hydro with green Barbasol. I typically shave my head and face every other day.

When I first started shaving my head, I got razor burn, but haven't in years. It helps to shave with the direction of the hair growth, which switches direction in various places on your head. It may take a few weeks for you to figure out your pattern.

Using a quality post-shave face lotion after shaving helps too. (A true lotion, not a liquid aftershave, which is mostly alcohol.)

I use a face lotion with integrated sunscreen all over my head and face in the morning, and reapply spray sunscreen as needed throughout the day when I'm going to be outside.

Hats help too, obviously.

I use these from Dorco (which incidentally is the razor maker for Dollar Shave Club) and a good quality gel shaving cream and a large handheld mirror. The trick I've found is to shave your head TWICE and not too forcefully and to use that razor only maybe twice. Sometimes just once, they are cheap enough.

I use a Gillette 5-blade razor. I think it's called Fusion. I shave in the shower. I actually sit my arse down on the floor and go over my head a couple times with just the hot water running on it, then finish up by going over again with a shaving cream. Something with Aloe seems to work best for me, usually Gillette or Edge are the brands.

I used to think the 5-bladed razors were just for marketing, but the one I'm using gets the job done faster than 1 or 2 blades, and it seems to last a lot longer. There's a 6th blade on the opposite side of the shaving head. I usually use it first if it's been 2+ days since the last shave, to take the brunt of the punishment, then follow up with the multi-bladed side.

Nair for men. Doesn’t smell like powder and flowers. Buzz everything low, apply the cream, let it sit for ten minutes, and scrape it off with good pressure. I use my library card, since I only use the number to digitally rent books and the card never gets physically used for anything else. Has a nice, even, feathered edge to the plastic. Perfect for scraping.

Pros:
No razor burn.
Cheaper.
Fewer ingrown hairs or razor bumps.
Stays smoother longer, head feels like leather armor for a few days.
No risk of cuts.

Cons:
If you leave it on too long or tarry while scraping it off, it’ll burn you.
Slightly worse mess if done out of the shower. I used a few paper towels to wipe the card clean.
It’s corrosive chemicals vs a blade. If a small splotch of the stuff happens to hit your wood floor and you don’t notice, it’ll discolor it. Wife wasn’t thrilled.

Please note, it will make your hair grow back thinner and wispier. This is not an exaggeration on the product label. It took about nine months of growing back before my hair looked normal again after the method above for about a year.

I alternated between razor and nair, not strictly one of the other. Nair when I felt like dealing with the process, razor in the shower when I didn’t.

I use shave soap (currently products from Ogallala Bay rum company) and a badger brush.

I do the first pass with a Merkur DE handle with a feather blade in it. Second pass is with a 5 blade Gillette.

The initial use of the DE razor takes most hair out of play and dramatically extends the life of the more expensive multi blade razor cartridge. I change out my DE blades every few times I do my head. I rarely ever have to change out the multi blade cartridge.

Schick Extreme 3 for blade. Schick Edge for gel.
Been doing this for years, and nothing beats this combo, for me. Tried Gillette and Bic, and they were all no good to me.

+1 on the Gillette Fusion. I used to do it in the shower with soapy water, but often just scape the hair off dry, frequently smacking the shaver against the sink to clean out the blades. I must have a tough melon. I’ve found the small area of my head that still grows hair to be less sensitive than “the dead zone”. YMMV.
I’d leave sun screen off the newly shorn area for a while (but put it on the rest of your head) to let it color up to the more tanned skin. Unless you are golfing or spending a few hours outside: no sense getting a burn.

I use a Norelco triple head rotary. I've tried razors over the years and my head is just too easy to nick it seems, and razor-burns easily. Norelco shaves it smooth within 5 minutes, no burns or cuts.

Wahl Sr. without no comb attachment.

It'll bring down what hair you have left 'almost' close as a shave, but far quicker, easier than shaving.

I'm a big fan of the head blade. I use a regular Gillette Fusion swivel on my face and the head blade on my head. I shave both my head and my face every other day and I'm satisfied.

I just use Wahl balding shears. Easier and faster than shaving and close enough to the scalp. Still have to be careful as the sharp edge can still take a bite out of the scalp if you're not careful.

Any brand of electric clippers with no guard. Much less labor intensive than shaving with a razor.

I was empty for the first three shaves but this morning I had the shave butter and wow, what a difference. The ability to see is huge. I’m getting the hang of the random direction my hair grows in particularly over my left ear. Who knew.

I've tried the clipper route before, and find a blade to be significantly easier.

Plus, I can shave with the blade in the shower while the water's running, meaning it's faster, it's not as tough on my skin, and there's no cleanup.
