Used to use Kelly Blue Book and they'd just come up with a number. Now they (and every other place I've tried) want to get all your information and then get quotes from dealers. Nope. Uh-uh. Not gonna do that and get swamped by calls and emails. Just indulging idle curiosity at the moment, do NOT intend to buy/trade any time soon. Be careful when following the masses. I completely agree. It's silly. But ... they want to market your info. Best way I've found to get approximate value is go on Auto Trader and look for similar vehicles. You can find out what people are asking for them. Private party sales will be well below what dealers are asking. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Thanks. Around $20K for my '13 Tundra with 66K miles and some dings and scratches. About what I thought. Haven't done any in-depth research but a cursory glance says replacements are all turbo V6's (no, thanks...) and around $45K (oh, HELL no...). I'll drive it until the wheels fall off. Or I do... I haven't check lately but in the past, KBB was lower than NADA. A dealer would use KBB to buy and NADA to sell. Carmax will give you an estimate that's good for 7 days. They ask for your VIN and zip code and I think that's it. Last time I traded a vehicle in, I got a quote from Carmax and used that as my baseline. Dealer I traded it into matched Carmax's offer. Try an Autonation dealer. I sold an F250 to them last summer for about $10k more than Carmax offered. Like guns, Love Sigs

KBB.com still lets you just get an estimate, without requiring any personal info. Once you put in your car's information, it takes you to a screen that says: "You've Got Options", with two buttons to select. One selection says Get Your Trade-In & Private Party Values. This one doesn't require any personal info. You can include your email, but it's optional. It spits out a report with a range of values for dealer trade-in and private party sales. The other selection says Get A Cash Offer For Your Specific Vehicle. This is the one that requires you to provide your personal information, because the information is going to be sent out to a network of dealers who want to be able to contact you directly to make an offer for your car. If you just want a number, go with the first option, not the latter one.

Years ago I used my Credit Unions loan department a few times to determine a loan value by asking their loan department. They were happy to assist. I'd receive the loan value and they'd also give me an idea of a typical retail sale price they typically encountered. Check with your bank or credit union. .

I must be easily amused, I always use a fake name and a spam email account I have along with a Google Voice number just to see what kind of response I get. Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view. Complacency sucks…
