I think it would be a rare gun owner who isn’t touch by one of his designs. Besides the guns he brought to production, so many operate in ways related that he brought to production.

J.M. Browning was born into a Mormon settler family in Ogden, Utah, on January 23, 1855. His parents, Jonathan Browning and Elizabeth Clark, were Mormons who settled in Utah after the Mormon Exodus of 1847.

By the age of 11, John had created his first firearm from castaway pieces and took it hunting, providing his family with three prairie chickens for the family’s dinner. By the time he was 18, John Browning had taken over his father’s business.

Today is also my middle son’s 16th birthday. A buddy of mine remarked about how he shared a birthday with JMB.

Strangely I didn’t know that until today.

Some of his guns were left to the Charles Russell Museum in the early 80's by his grandson. At the time, only a few of them were on display due to a lack of room. The ones I saw were new in the box with some having hang tags.

Browning is a personal hero of mine. My daughter’s middle name is Browning in honor of John Moses Browning. Thank you sir for sharing your genius with the world.

His namesake and heir has a place here. He’s also a member at King Kamehameha Golf Club and joined a couple of us for lunch once. When introductions were made I had no idea he was “that” John Browning and guns never came up in the conversation. Nice guy.

I've mentioned in the past that I had an office in his Ogden mansion. The owner showed me what looked like a small pistol range in the basement. I still think the original A5 is the most durable and reliable semi-auto shotgun.

A new book came out last year." The Guns of John Moses Browning"
by Nathan Gorenstein. My older brother who is the most liberal person
I know sent it to me. He doesn't own a single gun but watches Hickock 45.

I think Browning's ripple was big enough to permanently affect the entire firearm world, forever.
