Have a UPS where the batteries are kaput, it sat for a while, I'd like to put it back to use since it's a bit larger than the current UPS, which I will move to other items in need of a UPS.

The Unit is a CyberPower 900AVR, it has two BB Battery SH1228W batteries connected together, which are from google, 12V 28W/Cell 12V 7.2Ah units.

There are plenty of options in the 12V UPS battery market, expensive to inexpensive just curious, should I get an exact or close to exact 12V replacement in 7.2 ah or, can I move it up to say 9am (or some higher figure) and get more run time out of the UPS which would help with shutting down the equipment.

A new UPS is an option but similar models are $150, whereas batteries for this run from $40 a pair to $50 each.

I have two of these CyberPower UPS's. One if about fifteen years old, the other fairly new. I did the battery upgrade in the older one last April with a pair of these, seems to have worked fine during the one four-hour power outage we've had since I put it back into service.

Replacement was easy peasy, plug'n'play, took no more than ten minutes.

I have a cyberpower 1350, It had the 7.2 AH batteries, When they died I replaced them with 9Ah batteries. No issues.

If you go the replacement route, my APC Back-UPS Pro 1500S works great. It has a user replaceable 9Ah battery and provides a pure sine wave output.

If you put a larger capacity battery in the unit, the circuitry and firmware program are still going to think it is a 7.2 Ah. So it may underestimate the time remaining under load and may not recharge to full capacity as fast. But it will probably work. And the overcurrent and thermal trips are still going to protect the device.

They've lasted as long as the originals, longer in the case of my kid's jeep (replaced the charger with one that didn't suck at the same time).

The UPS might croak before the 2nd round of batteries does, so I wouldn't worry about absolute maximum life, especially for 2-3-5x the cost of the cheap one.

You can put in any UPS battery that fits and correct voltage.
If the size permits and you insert a larger (capacity) battery > it will work and provide some nominal increase in runtime.
On some of the expensive units that we use for servers (smart ups) will need to be recalibrated afterwards.
I generally support APC primarily as an APC Partner but have used some of the other brands as well.
On OEM vs the others > OEM will be the best quality and longevity but some others will work fine, you have to try them.
With massive inflation of this category we have to think twice on evaluating the cost.
American Battery is one that I have used successfully.
A popular APC battery I have used for servers is the RBC7 (APC part number) used to be around $100 for the OEM > now it is $200, others are $120~$150 so it makes you rethink the cost.

For me all I'm looking for is a way to keep the power on through short outages so it doesn't interrupt any work in progress and if it's longer, enough time to close out open items on my computer and to a proper shutdown.
When I did a search I found a larger AH battery that fit so that's what I got.
Not a lot of difference in price so why not?

I just replace them with whatever fits the tray. 7.2, 8, 9. I don't really care. We need them to last a minute or less. You won't see much difference in runtime if at all.
