I like the Luxpro 200. It is fairly inexpensive also.

This.
For almost all my non-tactical uses for a light, the Baton series is the one I choose. I have a couple (an 18650, a single CR123) and they have been the most utilitarian light i've ever used other than a headlamp. The clip allows the light to attach to a hat brim easily.
The magnetic base comes in very handy, especially working under the hood of a car. It has a very low output setting which I use regularly for checking a patient's pupillary response. Easy controls, and sips battery power. I'd get the AA version in a heartbeat.

+1 on this.

Based on advice received here, I bought a 6 pack of them and they're the schizznitz. Focusable beam, dang powerful for a single AA. Little hard on batteries, but for a throw-away flashlight, a helluva deal.

Several years ago I purchased six of these for use around the house and vehicles. All work well with eneloop batteries and are decently bright. The beam focus is handy. Versions of this with slightly different names are available on e-bay.

Fenix E12. I have several and have bought them as gifts for friends, too.
Rugged, bright, good battery life, compact, very reliable. Mine have never failed to work.

If I have my pants on I have me E12 in the pocket. I love my little like I've had it probably a year and a half.

Beat me to it. I keep one in my lab coat on the manufacturing floor. It gets used a bunch as well as gets abused. Still running strong.

I have a few of them, one to edc, one in to saddlebags on the bike. I gave them to the wife and her best friends.
Given a few as gifts.

I've got a dozen of the Crees in various sized, and 4 of the Coast. Both are good to go. The most I paid for a Cree is 15 bucks, including a recharging system. Coast usually uses standard batteries. The Crees often use 3xAAA.

Another fan of the Fenix E series. The E12 as already mentioned, but I find I use the E01 and E05 more because they disappear in your pocket. I love them and am amazed how often I use them.

EDIT: Whoops! The E01 and E05 are actually AAA. All the better as far as I'm concerned.

For a BASIC light, I keep a few of these around.

Really BASIC! No zoom. No strobe. No SOS. No multi-level output. Just a 1-cell AA, LED light. It turns on and makes light. It turns off and makes dark.

MSRP is ten bucks, but I usually find them for $5.99 at Ace Hardware.

Several years ago, I bought a bunch of these and gave some away for Christmas. They use one AA or a 14500 battery.

Lots of people sell them on ebay for $5 or less.

This. No need for further discussion.

O-light are making the best flashlights dollar for dollar these days, hands down.

They are also a fantastic company who recently donated an entire days worth of sales to the family of Going Gear founder, Marshall. They raised over $60,000 for his family.

This one. I have several of them and give them for christmas gifts. Very bright and don’t need special batteries.

The O-light has double the lumens and likely has better battery management.

A lot of flashlight companies build cheap lights with cheap electronics and play a bunch of tricks to advertise super bright output. Chances are that it can run at that brightness for a few minutes and it kills most of the battery.

These Mikafen with a Cree Q5 are really nice lights. They are bright, zoom-able beam, decent battery life and they look really nice. Make great stocking stuffers. Five for $15 you can tuck them all over. https://www.amazon.com/5Pack-F...8-1&keywords=Mikafen

Thanks for the suggestions. I have always wanted to try one of those plight batons so am going to grab a s1a. I think I am also going to grab one of their weapon lights and give it a try. They seem to get a lot of good review and be a lot of light for the $.

For those that have tried both. Fenix LD09 or E12? Leaning towards LD for the clip, but it's $10 more.

I do; great little light. I usually run it with the 14500 Li-Ion rechargeable batt, but being AA capable is good to have available if I need it.

I've had a Fenix P1D for a long time and carried it daily until I got my Fenix E12. The P1D is a great little light the only drawback was it takes one C123 and that can get expenses. I washed and dried it two times. It got so hot in the dryer could couldn't hold it but still works the same.
But now I carry my E12 and love it with just one AA battery.
