sigfreundAnyone who believes that (even parts of) Canada or (holy chit!) Mexico should become part of the United States might want to give, oh, a couple of nanoseconds or so to the idea in view of oh, a couple of zillion examples of what happens when people with different sociopolitical attitudes and backgrounds are allowed to flood into a country. I live in a state that was
Californicated into something that is unrecognizable from what it was when I was born here and even decades later. Do I feel sorry for a small segment of the population in Canada? Yes, but I feel sorry for myself as well.

Carpentermaass84In regards to Greenland... the fact that most locals would rather turn down $100k and be occupied by Chinese pretty much justifies the need to invade and annex their land. We don't need that many irrational people harboring anti-American sentiment in our backyard. I hope there's no bloodshed but we may not have much of a choice.

What evidence do you have that that “most locals would rather turn down $100k and be occupied by Chinese”? I’m skeptical.

2BobTannerThe last time Denmark suffered an invasion, they surrendered after 1/2 hour. Danes have since adopted the saying "Aldrig mere 9 April" (transl. Never again an April 9). Hopefully it won’t come to a military operation.

They aren't explicitly saying "we would like to be occupied by China" but that is the end result if they don't allow us to takeover.

The article with the poll you linked is from January 29, 2025, just nine days after Trump took office. That was a year ago. The $100k idea was floated just two days ago. So, there’s no evidence, but you’re just assuming that “most locals would turn down $100,000”.

Yet, you want them to become part of the US, providing them with all the rights and protections under the Constitution, and they’ll still hate us. Maybe even more. God knows we have millions like them in the country, already. Folks talk about getting rid of CA and NY and the likes. We want less leftists, not more.
I can’t believe anyone with a sane mind thinks we would militarily take over Greenland. Never going to happen.

Well, we acquired Puerto Rico. Military was involved.

From the mouth of McEnroe, “You cannot be serious!”
The Puerto Rico acquisition was part of the Spanish-American War. What war against any European nation are we in right now? And, before anyone invoke Venezuela, there’s simply no equivalence there.
Right, we’re just going to blitzkrieg Greenland.

Not much of that (sanity) going around these days, so it is increasingly difficult to know what people are capable of believing.
But, what the heck? Why not upset a bunch of people—including the people who live there—by claiming that it is a serious possibility? That will make our future relationships with them and the Danes so much closer.

Who gives a shit about their feelings. Trump has made it pretty clear at this point that he only respects military might and not antiquated agreements that define "borders" and "sovereignty". If your country is in our neighborhood and it possesses something we want then we will take it. 1900s imperialism is hard for some to accept but it's the best way to counter a China that is playing by the same rule book.

There is so much idiocy in this drivel that the only thing I'll say is that I'm glad you're just an armchair general.

GenorogersI still say Trump should trade MN to Canada and we take Alberta.

2BobTannerIt might be a bit too early to say what could eventually happen, but Denmark could transfer its responsibilities of military and foreign affairs to USA, while Greenland then becomes a “Free Association State”, retaining its internal domestic controls.
Its citizens would retain their Greenlander status, but could apply to become U.S. Nationals, separate from being a U.S. Citizen. This would be similar to the status people of American Samoa.

My immediate thought was an armchair lance corporal of Austrian heritage.
But as poor reading comprehension is also not in short supply, I’ll point out that my earlier comment wasn’t about actual military action which isn’t about to occur, but the bombastic threat of such action. That accomplishes nothing besides raising legitimate doubts about sanity as well as resentments and hatred.

soomaSome of you act like you just got introduced to Trump yesterday.
We have had 5 wonderful years he has given us as President. This is what he does to shorten the OODA loop nearly every time and how he has been the most effective President in history.

Fed161The US already has a military base in Greenland. Why would we invade Greenland to establish a military presence there when we already have one? Makes no sense to me.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pituffik_Space_Base On top of that, France and Denmark both say they will attack any US forces involved in an invasion of Greenland.

I love Trump. Voted for him 3x, would do it 3x more. He is human, and his biggest liability is the inability to communicate a message appropriately. Most of the time, he is on target - but when he misses, he pisses on his own Cheerios.
His second major failing is not being able to find the right individuals to enact his vision (DOJ Barbie, among about 400 others…)
Canada right now would be our closest ally with Paul Polievre, take a peek at how that changed.
