If they have the necessary licenses, I am sure they can. However, how many of us would stay at an unaffiliated hotel? Outside of a Air B&B or a highly rated independent B&B, I wouldn't. AND, if they are not affiliated with Hilton, they lose access to ALL fed government business or any other large contracts Hilton has with others.

In addition, the people who own this hotel may have others under the Hilton brand. I hope those sites are under review by Hilton and being probed by independent journalists as well.

This could ruin the owners, who I understand are native Indians (dot, not feather). That would be a two-fer in my opinion.

Hilton brand = Prestige = $$$$$

Patel brand = Obscurity = $$

The franchisee probably owns the property, so they are probably able to continue to sell hotel rooms, but not under the Hilton banner.
