The Trump Presidency : Year V
It’s simple - you have borders and enforce them or you don’t. When you stop enforcing those borders you stop being a sovereign nation. Other countries know this, and even though Mexico has been a source of entry for millions of illegal aliens they too know that you can’t maintain sovereignty without a border. They are just no longer able to sit back and hope that they can keep expecting the US to effectively fund the problems associated with the unlawful migration that they have supported. This is why unchecked immigration advocates have so vociferously opposed Trump’s immigration policies because they know that they’ll have a trickle down effect. Mexico could only wait so long before they had to start enforcing their borders and other nations will soon follow.

Might also because the amount of remittances to Mexico have fallen by over 16% from the previous year. Their off-book cash flow is drying up, so get rid of the unwanted extras.

Drugs kill hundreds of thousands of Americans every year. I have no issue with drug boats being blown up just like I would have no issue with airplanes heading towards cities with terrorists at the controls being blown up, or with trucks full of bombs being blown up, etc.

I care zero about international law, but please tell me specifically which US law is being violated by lethal interdiction of drug boats? Because the JAGs working for commanders executing these strikes disagree with you, so please be precise in describing exactly how the entire chain of command is acting illegally.

Mexico collects 10 to 15% on all inbound wires

Who gives a shit? We're the biggest military and economic power in the world. Who is going to hold us accountable to said laws? "Laws" are unenforceable if they are backed by weakness.

Santos pardoned…

Santos is a white collar criminal, that said, there is no reason I can conceive for Solitary Confinement.

If the facts are true, I approve of the pardon and hope that an appropriate investigation is launched to determine the reason and those bearing responsibility for the treatment.

I have followed the incarceration of murderers that never were subjected to such treatment.

Again, I deplore Santos´ behavior, however, I condemn his treatment and approve the President’s action to stop the injustice.

Ummmm...not to be argumentative but how is this not the same as the "Guns kill blah blah blah" argument?

I'm not against the idea of whacking drug boats, but this "bottom up" approach seems to be more about sending a message rather than actual results. I'm still waiting for that rash of cartel leader accidental (or not) deaths.

The President designated Venezuelan drug cartels to be terrorist organizations that are unlawful combatants against the USA. Either we have the right to national self defense against known enemies or we don't.

These aren't innocent vacationers out drinking beer and sport fishing. All they have to do to not get blown up is to not be smuggling drugs.

Taking out these boats will eventually deter people from this method of smuggling. It is one piece of the puzzle. Shutting down the southern land border to illegal crossings has reduced drug crossings, and is another piece. It all helps.
