I still use my Texas Instruments BA-II that I purchased in about 1981 or 82. It's still on the original battery. I don't use it a lot, a few times a week for short periods of time, but it still works great!

I realized the switching diodes did not have the isolation and switching speed. I checked my parts supply from working at other companies and found some diodes that would work. Ed made a new PC board for the modification and we now had a mobile radio that could scan eight frequencies while the product planners were out to lunch. So we put the eight frequency option in the book for $200.
In the mid to late 80's, I worked as a surveyor (made it up to party chief). The cool older guys and techs in the office mostly had those HP-41CX's with their plug in engineering modules. I plodded along with an HP11. It was programmable, and really a strong tool for field surveying math. Now you can download an HP41cx simulator, and put it on your PC desktop.
