The Trump Presidency : Year V

An excellent and detailed review of the Trump Administration brief to SCOTUS on birthright citizenship.

It is long, but the level of detail on previous USG statements, Congressional actions and statements, and previous court rulings is amazing.

Somebody was complaining about Trump and some cryptocurrency thing. I don't know anything about cryptocurrency in general, and less about this topic.

Is this liberals griping or was this not a good thing for him to have done? What's the general opinion on this? I read the wiki page but it seems like liberal tears. Just wondering for the next time it comes up on conversation - accept as a bad thing and move on? Or something lib's have overblown in typical fashion? And why.

Yes, I know that November 11 was originally known as “Armistice Day” and only got renamed after WW2 to honor all military veterans of all the various wars. But to me this is going a bit too far.

There’s already a big hullabaloo about the 250th Anniversary of the Army’s founding parade on June 14, which just so happens to coincide with his 79th birthday. The “usual suspects” are saying this is further “proof” of his megalomaniacal tendencies.

This is an “unforced error” that isn’t needed.

Trump plans to change Veterans Day into ‘Victory Day for World War I’

President Donald Trump in a social media post Thursday announced plans to rename Veterans Day as “Victory Day for World War I” and establish May 8 as “Victory Day for World War II.”

“We won both wars, nobody was close to us in terms of strength, bravery, or military brilliance, but we never celebrate anything,” Trump wrote in the late night statement. “That’s because we don’t have leaders anymore, that know how to do so! We are going to start celebrating our victories again!”

The move to rename Veterans Day — established to coincide with the end date of World War II — would overwrite 87 years of precedent in recognizing Nov. 11 as a national holiday celebrating all veterans.

During his last term in office, Trump issued a national proclamation for Veterans Day honoring the celebration as a chance for the country to “pause to pay tribute to all who have proudly worn our nation’s uniform.” He did not make any mention of the World War I origins of the date.

White House officials did not respond to clarification on whether Trump’s Victory Day name would replace or run alongside Veterans Day celebrations.

Trump also did not clarify if he expects May 8 will also become a federal holiday like Veterans Day, although a decision on that designation would fall to Congress.

In his post, Trump noted that many countries commemorate the end of World War II on May 8 “but we did more than any other country, by far, in producing a victorious result.”

May 8, 1945, was the end of major fighting in the European arena of World War II, but fighting in the Pacific for U.S. and allied troops continued for nearly four more months, until Sept. 2 of that year.

More than 400,000 U.S. troops were killed in fighting in World War II, according to the National World War II museum.

Oh like entire month for Pride? Where we as an entire nation had to kowtow to the insane left, who actively went after your children? Where every Fed space around the world hung flags that was not the American Flag?

Folks, I plead with you, to not listen or side with the MSM and the GDC.

We should have an entire month for our fellow citizens who have fought for the very foundations of this country. Don't get caught up in the minutia.

We need every institution brought back to the reason why they even exist, which is to create and maintain the greatest country that ever existed.

Most importantly, we need our families back to continue the fight every single day to keep the dark at bay.

At least it can be said that because only an estimated 6 percent of American adults are military veterans, it will anger a relatively insignificant number of us. And of course the vast majority will simply be bemused: “World War I? What’s that?”—assuming they even notice.

3 Wallens Ridge corrections officers stabbed by gang members, authorities say

BIG STONE GAP, Va. (WCYB) — Three Wallens Ridge corrections officers were stabbed by gang members on Friday morning, according to the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC).

Authorities said the attack happened at around 9:45 a.m. Five of the 6 inmates involved in the attack are confirmed MS-13 gang members from El Salvador, who are in the US illegally, VADOC said. Each has been convicted of violent crimes including aggravated murder, first and second degree murder, and rape, VADOC said. The other inmate involved in the attack is a confirmed member of the Sureño 13 gang and from the United States and is serving a sentence for second-degree murder, VADOC added.

Five officers were taken for outside medical treatment. Three officers, including two who suffered minor injuries while responding to the attack, have been discharged, according to VADOC. Two officers have been admitted to the hospital and are considered stable.

“Five of the individuals responsible for this senseless attack should never have been in this country in the first place,” said VADOC Director Chad Dotson. “Every single day, our officers put their lives on the line to ensure public safety for the more than 8.8 million people across the Commonwealth. This attack is an example of the dangers they face when they show up to work every day. Our officers are heroes, and I commend the team at Wallens Ridge for their swift response.”

The investigation remains ongoing.

Up until 1954 November 11th was Armistice Day, the celebration of the end of WWI. So DJT is proposing returning it to its original purpose and adding a day for the end of WWII. Works for this veteran.

WWII ended 15 years before I was born, (but I knew some WWI vets, who were really old, like about the age I am now!). WWII seemed like nearly ancient history to me.

For my kids, the Vietnam War was further in the past to them than WWII was to me.

For all but 3 of my 10 grandkids, 9/11 is further in the past to them than WWII was to me.

Most Americans won't care about changing the name of Veterans Day.

Update on Veterans Day name change.

Trump's major U-turn after controversial name change to American holiday

The Trump administration has backed down on renaming the Veterans Day holiday to 'Victory Day for World War I'.

President Trump said on Thursday that he wanted to rename the national holiday, which is celebrated on November 11, to celebrate the victory of World War I.

In a post to his Truth Social page, he said: 'I am hereby renaming May 8th as Victory Day for World War II and November 11th as Victory Day for World War I.

'We won both Wars, nobody was close to us in terms of strength, bravery, or military brilliance, but we never celebrate anything.

'That’s because we don’t have leaders anymore, that know how to do so! We are going to start celebrating our victories again!'

Trump's post was not accompanied with an executive order, and only Congress has the power to change or create federal holidays.

On Friday however, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told ABC News that the renaming wouldn't be happening in an official capacity.

She said: 'We are not renaming Veteran's Day. It will just be an additional proclamation that goes out on that day.'

It remains unclear what Leavitt means by 'additional proclamation'. It has been celebrated as a national holiday since 1918.

The date marks the official armistice that saw the end of World War 1, President Eisenhower saw it officially named 'Veterans Day'.

In branding May 8 as 'Victory Day for World War II', Trump would be aligning the US with Victory Day, which is already celebrated in Europe.

May 8 marks the day that the allied forces mark as the end of the war in Europe, after Germany's unconditional surrender. It is not the date officially recognized by the US as the end of the war.

American forces continued to fight the war until later that year when Japanese forces officially surrendered on August 15.

That fact has been highlighted by MSNBC host Keith Olbermann who branded Trump a 'moron'.

He posted on X: 'We won World War II on August 15, 1945 when the Japanese surrendered. Trump is a complete moron.'

The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America group also told The New York Times that they would reject any name change.

Their CEO Allison Jaslow said: 'It is not the veterans’ fault if we don’t win wars. Veterans Day should be an acknowledgment of the ways that fellow Americans have served and sacrificed to protect and defend what we have in America.'

Left-leaning political action committee VoteVets also posted on X saying: 'Veterans Day began as Armistice Day, honoring the end of World War I — then it was changed to honor ALL who served. Now Trump wants to rename it.

'Reframe it. Twist it into a tribute to conquest. Veterans don’t need rewritten history. They need respect — and the benefits they earned.'

It comes as Washington is preparing to celebrate the 250th year of the Army on June 14, the same day as Trump's birthday.

The large scale parade will feature marching troops, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, rows of howitzers, and other symbols of American might.

As many as 6,300 of the service members will march, with another 300 in support, in a demonstration of power and organization.

Trump, who curates his campaign play list, will also get to see as many as seven bands, assuming he attends the festivities.

Some people will excuse almost anything that a favorite of theirs does, but other than to indulge a whim, what possible reason could there be for changing the name of a day that recognizes the contributions of all military veterans, not just the (all now dead) ones who fought in a specific conflict that ended over a century ago? If anything, the proposal only seemed to add credence to prior claims about President Trump’s supposed disrespect for military veterans.

And if we want to pick nits, 11 November 1918 wasn’t actually the end of World War I. It was called “armistice day” for a reason because although it ended the fighting, the war wasn’t technically over until the treaty of Versailles was signed the following year.

But that’s nothing compared with claiming that World War II victory occurred on 8 May 1945; thousands of American combatants were killed after that date, including about 12,000 on Okinawa alone.

I applaud many of PDJT’s initiatives and am profoundly grateful to the Fates that kept Cackles out of the White House. But people in general have much more lasting and stronger memories of when the Government harms or even offends them rather than when it does them good—especially if that good isn’t an obvious and direct benefit to them personally. I’m going to take as much satisfaction as I can from the state of the Nation for the next 20 months or so because it seems obvious to me that a lot of very angry people will be going to the polls in November 2026.
