Raised Hands Surround Us Three Nails To Protect Us |
I just want to double click on things and it work. I don't want to have to right click run as administrator. I do not have multiple users and no one uses the computer but me so I just want to click on things don't want to have to set certain privileges, etc. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. No Compromise |
You should appreciate how your OS attempts to protect you from yourself. In today's hardware abstraction layer (HAL) world the OS protects itself from actually harming your hardware. Also, you are not meant to log in as an administrator. This protects you from doing powerful things that can damage your data. Embrace your inner user! Or not. If not, then remove your user account, and log in as an administrator. Do this using 'User Account Control Settings'. Or go to 'Settings - Accounts' to make the changes. H&K-Guy

Yep, see the User Account Control (UAC) settings.

Don't Panic |
'Protect you from yourself', in this case, means - among other things- that some malware tricks that don't work in 'user' mode will mess you up badly if they hit you while your machine is in 'administrator' mode. A bit of hassle for a good bit of protection. But it's your machine so it's your call. Do backups often, in any event.

The whole point to that is to ensure that critical/dangerous changes to the system require deliberate approval. This should have been done long, long ago. Letting just whatever run with Administrator rights whenever has long been one of MS-Win's most egregious defects. Disable it and you might almost as well be running WinXP, security-wise. It's too late to work within the system,,,, but too early to shoot the bastards." -- Claire Wolfe "If we let things terrify us, life will not be worth living." -- Seneca the Younger, Roman Stoic philosopher

I'm in the same situation being I'm the only one that uses my desktop PC, but I don't find working with a user account cumbersome even when needing to install programs or doing other such "administrator" tasks. The system merely asks for a pass word verification to proceed. That seems like a good protection measure. Also, there are some user functions that are not available if you log in with and administrator account. Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves. -D.H. Lawrence

If you do not connect to the internet in any way, then use the administrator account instead. Otherwise, if you get email, surf the web, even read our beloved SigForum, use any application that 'calls' home or otherwise uses the internet to function, then you should be using a non-privileged account. Do you use a anti-virus program? Why? It would be like trying to go bare through a swamp and not get wet. ———- Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for thou art crunchy and taste good with catsup.
