Rock climbing question about Honnold and The Dawn Wall
I'm watching The Dawn Wall and I'm wondering....

This Caldwell guy and his buddy are climbing El Capitan's Dawn Wall. They are taking something like two weeks!!

How in the hell did Honnold climb something similar in 4 hours??? I gather there are different routes, but that seems a pretty big difference in time.

That route is thought to be much harder than the route Honnold took for his free solo climb on the Freerider route.

They also used ropes (albeit for safety, not to help upward progress), which takes longer.

Those two routes are not similar in any way.

The Dawn Wall is immensely more difficult. Anyone trying to free solo the route that Caldwell and his partner took up the Dawn Wall will die.

I was trying to find a map/sketch/pic of the routes. To my untrained eye it looked like the Freerider route crossed part of the Dawn Wall.

Rock climbing is batshit insane. LOL
