Last night was recycling Eve. High wind advisory was expected for later today but it showed up early in the AM instead.
My neighborhood looks like a third world country with recycling and garbage all over the place. The recycling cans are rolling down the street along with the trash. I'm sure some street parkers are going to have some dents.
I cleaned up my yard and the neighbors yard three times already. Looks like I did nothing. I'm going to wait until it is over to do it again. This message has been edited. Last edited by: mark123,

That's the way I do it since I once chased my garbage all over the block years ago.

This ^^^^^
They forced us to take bins big enough to hold us 2-3 weeks. So when either high winds, rain, or snow are forecast: The bins stay in the garage.
Don't need 'em blowing all over creation or being filled with precipitation.

I don't put my trash out the night before. There are some dogs that might be loose in the neighborhood, and we definitely have raccoons around, as well as at least one fairly large black bear, any of them will investigate garbage.
The dogs have not figured out how to open a lid on a trash container yet, but the raccoons and the bear can get in easily, so my trash goes out on the morning of collection instead of sitting out overnight.
Recycle is not a problem, the city supplies rectangular bins that will not roll away in a wind, but the recycle truck does not come through here before 8:30 am, so that stuff usually goes out in the morning, along with the trash.

I put it out the day of as well. There were street urchins and crackheads that would pick through your stuff and make a huge mess back at my old house in CT.

Wow, why didn't I think of that? Pfft!
We are instructed to set out trash and recyclables the eve before because they are supposed to come in the early morn. When the city handled the trash it was collected by 1am. Now that a private contractor does it, it's anywhere from 4am to 10am. Varies.

We have lots of bears in our area so I don't set mine out the night before. Earliest my trash company will come through is 7 AM. They used to come right a t 7:10, which sucked because I often forgot. I now have an alarm on my phone set for 7:00.

Yep. A bag full of trash blown up against my side yard fence. Inconsiderate assholes. Set your stuff out unsecured on a night with 50 mph wind. But, I've seen my neighbors paycheck stubs, credit card statements, packaging from a sex toy! It never ends. The wind always blows my way.
