Oh I just a masters in HR. Talk about a worthless degree. It was my second masters, I'll start my own rant. But I should've known it was shit when my classmates (I refused to call them peers) were fresh out of undergrad. Plenty of ideas but little practical knowledge or experience.

One of the professors said, "HR should have a seat at the table." You have to be fucking kidding me. HR should be sitting with senior management and making business decisions when said senior management have things after their last names such as MBA, PMP, CPA, CFA, and the work experience while MHR means shit? LOL.

To me, HR is just admin. Go sit at the kids table, shut up, only talk when spoken to, stay in your lane and stay the fuck out of the adults way of doing business.

I read this line on a forum years ago and it is forever burned into my brain. Spot on.

They MIGHT help you out if you are protected class. Straight white male and you may as well piss up a rope.

I'll leave it at that as I understand some members are HR and I don't want to offend. My personal experiences preclude me from ever speaking positive of HR, although I do admit to having good experiences with several HR ladies despite their chosen profession..........just to be fair.

I had a temporary job in an accounting department. All female, except me. They announced a theme lunch, mexican, everyone should bring something. Chips and plates were spoken for. So were the enchiladas, and some tacos. Like an idiot, I piped up and said I'd bring the road kill in stolen tupperware.

The room spun briefly and when it unspun, I was seated opposite the head of human resources who had paperwork for me to sign, admitting that I was socially insensitive, racially offensive, that I'd been given my one and only warning, and would be summarily dismissed (and likely run before a firing squad equipped with full-thickness staplers and rubber stamps, should I offend again.

I noted that mexicans aren't a race, they're a nationality, and socially I did offer to bring food and containers. Seemed sensitive to me.

HR allowed that the girl who complained (first) was the daughter of the former ambassador to mexico, and was deeply offended by my remarks. I should stand before the department and confess my sins, and beg for forgiveness. I said I'd rather take a year in a dentist chair with no anesthesia. I suggested she practice self-copulation, and returned to my desk. The HR wombat admitted he agreed, but kept my signed confession as a trophy.

Life goes on.

Same here. At one point in my legal career, I was a manager in the legal dept of a large corp. My dept grew and I needed to hire another attorney. I was required to use our HR dept to look for candidates.

My HR "partner" kept sending me resumes of people who were not lawyers. I called her up and patiently explained that to be considered for an attorney position, the candidate had to be an attorney, i.e., a law school graduate who had passed the state bar.

It did no good. She could not grasp this concept and I kept getting resumes for non-lawyers. Roll Eyes

I saw the same thing in one of the companies I worked for. A job was posted internally for Chief Engineer of an R&D section. Requirements were simple:

1. Must be an electronic engineer
2. Must have at least 5 years experience working as an electronic engineer

HR came up with 9 people. 6 of them weren't electronic engineers and had never done any work in electronics.

Of the remaining 3, only 1 had 5 years or more experience.

HR said they had to let others in because of affirmative action.

Guess who got the job? It actually was the one guy who was qualified.

My interaction with HR was mostly with the hiring process when we were trying to add staff to our department . I'm sure there was a method to their madness but I never did figure it out .
In all fairness , they performed brilliantly when we finally got tired of our tyrant Supervisor and we started calling in complaints to " The love line " . That's what we called the Ethics Line .
Big investigation ensued and about six of us were interviewed . The old bastard was told to put in for retirement immediately . Big Grin

That reminds of another "benefit" of our HR dept, their "assistance" in dealing with complaints.

One of my colleagues got into a big pissing match with our Director. It went on for a while and got quite ugly. My colleague filed a complaint with HR. I tried to keep out of it, but our HR "partner" assured me that everything I said would be kept in the strictest confidence. So, I met with him and gave him the unvarnished truth.

An hour later, I was called into my VPs office and reamed out. It seems our HR partner gave a full report on what I told him to my management as soon as I left his office. I never spoke any word to that rat bastard again.
