Raised Hands Surround Us Three Nails To Protect Us ![]() |
A while back there was a thread maybe a couple threads about falling asleep with the TV on. In these threads folks offered other suggestions from ambien, supplements, melatonin, box fans, music, sound pulsations, rhythmic tones, all over the board. I started searching some of the suggestions on YouTube and trying those with no real change over my normal routine. I really wasn’t having any difficult sleeping or falling asleep unless the kiddos came in and woke us up. But figured I would give some of the non-supppemnt/medication options a try. During the YouTube searches Robert Miles - Dreamland album kept popping up as a suggestion. I have enjoyed this album pretty much since it came out. However I used to listen to it to stay awake while driving through the night on road trips. I gave it a try, I’d turn the album on just loud enough to hear it when I was laying still. If I move the blankets or move my head on the pillow it get drowned out. This album puts me out like a light! I am not sure I usually make it past the 3rd track. Then on top of that I have some pretty vivid/realistic dreams when I fall asleep to the album. If I don’t fall asleep to this album I rarely dream. We are blessed with three terrible sleepers, takes forever to get them to sleep, and they don’t stay asleep. Most nights they all just end up in our room and I go sleep in one of their rooms, take my phone and fall right back to sleep thanks to Robert Miles. I thought wonder if it would do the same for the boys. So, whichever kid I put to sleep gets read to, then the lights go off, we say our prayer, and I turn on Robert Miles. Sure enough when I play Robert Miles for them to fall asleep that fall asleep very quickly and stay asleep much longer. They are little so I have not asked them about dreams. So, anyone up for giving this album a week to fall asleep to and see if there is actually something to it, or just a weird phenomenon limited to my household? As I lay here with the youngest kiddo typing this l, we just hit track 4 and he is already out! Here is the YouTube link. I know it is also available on Amazon Music and I would presume it is available on others. I still find this very strange because I spent so many nights driving to this album to stay awake when I was a young fella, now I love when I get to fall asleep to it. Unfortunately my wife will not fall asleep to music so most nights I am out of luck. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. About 25 years ago now, I was working in the ER at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY and living up in Saratoga Springs. I was, at the time, suffering from terrible insomnia. I had tried everything and settled on Crown Royal for some relief, but even that was short lived. One night I was walking through town and wandered into a Borders bookstore. Looking around in there, I came across a CD for insomnia by Dr. Jeffrey Thompson entitled The Delta Sleep System. It seemed to me to be rather new agey shit, but I figured I'd give it try since everything else had failed. I went home, layed down in bed, turned it on, and was asleep inside of 10 minutes. To this day, I go to sleep every night with it on, and I can honestly say that that I've never heard the end of it. I'd say I got my money's worth. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

You're able to fall asleep to this? Makes me want to dance. We fall asleep watching Seinfeld and it’s not bad.
I thought the same as I used it to stay awake years ago. However turn it super low and track 2 is much more low key than the first track. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I've had trouble falling asleep my entire life (I'm 61). I read a few months ago about red light. I just happened to have a multi-colored spotlight and one of these Olight. The red light thing really works. The spotlight is on an end table I turn on an hour or two before bed, the olight is on my night stand. I turn it on when I crawl in - and usually turn it off after about 3-5 mins because i'm ready to roll over and go to sleep. The other part of my regiment is below but, the red light part has helped the most. I actually go to sleep like a normal person now AND I'm getting better sleep than I ever have. ~I learned about melatonin a few years before reading about the red light stuff~ Discovering melatonin helped - I take 3 5mg's about an hour before bed, then 1 more and a 250 magnesium right before bed. I’ll try it for a week. I usually go to sleep to one of a few audiobooks that I have read several times or to the sound of rain. But I’ll give this a shot. My only concern is Your mention of vivid dreams as I already have very vivid dreams, to the point where I don’t get good sleep some nights. But I’ve got nothing going on for a few days so I’ll check this out. ETA: the album is available on Apple Music for anyone with a subscription. This message has been edited. Being curious, I found Dr. Thompson's YouTube channel: www.YouTube.com/@DrJeffreyThompsondc/videos He has several posts, including The Delta Sleep System 2.0: Direct Link to The Delta Sleep System 2.0 playlist: www.YouTube.com/watch?v=VB8FKVNiDH4&list=OLAK5uy_nc_rrdt5dDw05mw84omPplbqTLB63vTSU .

I fell asleep in about 2 minutes last night. It’s a bit too short for sleeping through the night but it got me there.

I listen to it on Amazon Music so I can set it to repeat the whole album. However I just have it set to play through once. If I happen to wake up I just start it over. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I use an app on my iPhone called 'Thunderspace'. Rain, wind, thunder. Works like a charm. I never get past the first 10 minutes.

I used to listen to “canyon trilogy” by R. Carlos Nakai ….. Native American flute and one of his albums had his flute music with rain and thunder in the background….my wife and I both found it very relaxing ________________________ Those who trade liberty for security have neither

Interesting techniques y’all are using. My biggest issue is I can’t stay asleep. I probably wake up 4-6 times a night tossing, turning, getting up to piss, etc. "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

I like a little bit of white noise, just barely loud enough to drown out, or cover up, other noises, such as traffic or whatever passing by. I turn on the ceiling fan, and in the summer I also turn on a pedestal fan. I don't mind that sound at all, it's so low level and constant, it drowns out or covers up other sounds like traffic passing by, occasional dog bark down the street, etc. The fans do not bother me at all in the winter. Works for me. YMMV. .
