My cousin works at the AB Plant in Columbus as a QC manager. Worked at Dr. Pepper full time and part time at AB for years until getting on with AB full time. I would recommend he rise to the top at a plant that's not HQ. ________________________ P229 Stainless Elite P320 X-Five Legion P320 X-Carry

How I would rank it 1. Williamsburg, Va (it's just a GREAT area) 2. Fort Collins, Co (everyone speaks highly of Co) 3. Houston/jacksonville (closes to Baton Rouge) 5. Merrimack, NH (great state but you'll have to deal with MASSHOLES) 6. Columbus, Oh 7. Cartersville, Ga 8. StL 9. The Cali locations (state sucks but at least the weather is nice 11. NY/NJ craphole states

With my employer (Fortune 70) being in the home office is a distinct advantage. The majority of the advancement opportunities will be there and the fact that he would already be there makes it an easier transition for everyone. Having said that another path of accelerated advancement is being willing to transfer to where you are needed. That has worked well for both myself and the wife.

I am partial to Houston, cost of living, food, weather, pro gun state etc. My uncle has worked there for ~30 years. Have him look at the Sea Brook, Kema, NASA area to live. HK Ag

I think you definitely get more of the company vibe and more exposure to the decision makers in a typical corporate HQ. Drawback is a lot of times the HQ takes the hit with job cuts first too. If your son goes and works effectively in a remote location and is successful, it may open up other opportunities that otherwise might not be there. As for the locations on the list I'm partial to Fort Collins. That would be a sweet spot. Also, CO has a huge craft beer industry so moving elsewhere in-state would be alternative, if your son wants to work for a different brewer down the road.

St. Louis would be a cool brewery to work for. Its beautiful and historic. They offer tours capped with free beer. The brewery is in South St. Louis, near Soulard. Its not a bad place. Young urban types live in Soulard, Tower Grove South, Tower Grove East and other areas which are relatively safe and are very close to the brewery. We lived about 2 miles west of the brewery for 3 years. If the wind was out of the east instead of the usual west, you could smell it heavily in the air. It was delicious. Of course, St. Louis has lots of suburbia areas that are quite well off. Does he have kids? If so, he should live in St. Louis County and not the City of St. Louis without a doubt. Lots of great activities in St. Louis. Free world renowned zoo, free science center, nature centers, good hunting and fishing within an hour or two, St. Louis Cardinals, etc. Stay out of North St. Louis and some parts of North St. Louis County and all will be well.

Thanks for the input guys, but obviously many have commented without reading through the posts. St Louis would be the same position as in the other cities. It's not a choice of working IN HQ or a different position. But, St. Louis is the U.S. HQ, so I didn't know if there would be an advantage to being there, if it was their flagship brewery, etc. I think Fort Collins is at the top of his list now, and Jacksonville is up there as well. I'll tell him about Williamsburg. I have to say that I didn't think any place got as hot and humid as Louisiana until we visited Williamsburg in the summer. He is young (23) with no kids or significant other, and he's going to do what he wants to do anyway. I just wanted to give him any good advice I could. Sounds like a nice company to work for, and he actually does get free beer!

I don't work at AB, but I know tons of people who do... even more who took the "buy out" and are former AB early retirees. But I also know some who started there after the merger. It's a great culture, and you can't beat being an AB employee in St. Louis. As much as I complain, there is much to love and AB employees are really treated well. Best of luck to him. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

I dated a girls whose sister worked at AB before InBev. She loved it, seemed like a great environment. Culture may have changed since the buyout. She was in St. Louis. There are rough areas but it was a fun town. If you live in the city make sure that you pick a place with secure indoor parking. Cars outside get broken into.

The brewery is a few miles from headquarters. It is essentially connected. I would be surprised if there was not a shuttle going to be going between the two. My experience is that if you want to rise or fall quickly in a company, the closer to headquarters the better. Its not always roses being in headquarters if you are not good at corporate politics. good luck with your choice.

I haven't read most of the replies. My suggestion (from experience) is to pick a location where he would get the best "corporate" exposure. In the long run, he'll benefit most from networking with some of the higher-ups rather than those who have marginal influence.

He had to turn in his final choices Jun 30, and he thinks they'll post assignments some time this week. I don't know his entire choice list, but I think the first few in order were: 1) Fort Collins, CO 2) Jacksonville, FL 3) and 4) Two different breweries in St. Louis, MO I think Houston was his next choice, but not sure. He lived in Houston last summer while doing a co-op at a chemical plant there, and I think familiarity was a factor. He's kind of a foodie, and likes good restaurants, good markets to shop at, and good sushi, so he likes the bigger cities. Fort Collins looks like a beautiful area. Jacksonville is where he is training now, and I guess he likes it. And St. Louis has the HQ thing going for it. Plus I think they have a test brewery or some such there, and that appealed to him. I appreciate all the feedback and the caring. I'll definitely update when he gets an answer.

And at least the Fourth won't be landing on the roof everyday anymore... In fact, he may be in some trouble with the FAA. "Some things are apparent. Not trying to to hijack the thread but the x CEO shouldn't be landing his chopper in a parking lot http://www.stltoday.com/lifest...95-2e9592a939a0.html

He has several aircraft, and always tends to land them wherever he wants. I don't think that is the issue so much as the suspected impairment. He has a plane on floats that he'll land on the river at the various restaurants he likes to eat at. He liked one place so much, he even built a dock there to accommodate his plane.

The Busch compound at the Lake of the Ozarks was right across the lake from my previous home and the chopper flew over my home when arriving and leaving. He still has a home here and is very visible around the lake.
