I'm not saying this because I want a violin accompaniment, or Kleenex tissues passed around, but because there are a lot of people in this country-- including whites-- who apparently never hear such stories: I grew up in tenements that had no running hot water, and no central heating. Forget cooling. The white guys I grew up with were in prison in their twenties, or strung out on drugs, or working their asses off as mechanics, bakers, carpenters, house painters. I started working at 14, paid under the table, putting up sheet rock in new homes for 25 cents per piece. My first legitimate job was as a pot washer, and then I moved up to busboy.
I have no complaints about any of it. I have friends who had it much harder, in various ways. I have done well and lifted myself up out of that. I'm just saying this as apparently new information for those racists who think it's fine to stereotype "whites" and generalize about us. As Bill Burr says, they've never been white, but they can tell us what it is like being white.

I haven't received my membership card yet, anyone know how to get one? I wish I had some kind of privilege based on my skin color. If anything all I have seen during my lifetime was rewards for being non-white. As soon as I get my membership card though, I am going to abuse the shit out of the privileges!

oh yeah... white privilege was so powerful for me, that I was actually passed over for the first few jobs that I interviewed for because I WAS white. Had I been any other race I would have been hired.
