Glad our Sigforum pilots are safe.
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Situation awareness is defined as a continuous extraction of environmental information, integration of this information with previous knowledge to form a coherent mental picture in directing further perception and anticipating future events. Simply put, situational awareness mean knowing what is going on around you. February 24, 2019, 10:21 AM
ChicagoSigManAwful news.
Isn't this the first fatal crash of a US 767 (other than the intentional crash on 9/11)? Such an incredible safety record on that plane.

I have a good friend, recent hire for Atlas. His first name is Ben. We flew together down at PGA AZ. Maybe you guys will get paired up sometime.

Seems so. Here is a list of failures and crashes of the 767. Looks like a pretty good record with fuel mismanagement being the biggest problem.

rscalzoVery sad. It will be some time until the cause is known for sure. Recovery itself can be even worse in the shallow mud in the area.

Yep, they're going to have a tough time finding the black boxes because they're saying that there is 5 feet of soft mud at the bottom of the bay. It's going to be critical to find them since there is so little information about the cause of the crash.

ASKSmithPrayers for their families and loved ones.
I’m not a pilot, but for a plane that size, is 3 crew members normal for a cargo flight?

I apologize now...

Apparently 2 crewmen is normal. The third guy on this flight was in transit and not a part of the flight crew.

Captain and First Officer. The third person was from a different airline. He was "jumpseating," or getting a ride to work, which is done throughout the industry.
Cargo flights will always have a captain and first officer (copilot), but often carry additional crew members for longer legs, and may also carry a mechanic and loadmaster aboard.

"The flight had departed from Miami and was bound for George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas when it nosedived and plunged into the bay, which is just about five feet deep and is mostly mud marsh.
It made a steep descent from 6,525 feet to 3,025 feet in 30 seconds, according to tracking data from FlightAware.com"
Rain, but light. Nothing too heavy
