"Lodestar Technology officially launched its LNK9 this month after several years of development that began in 2019. The firearm uses multiple smart technology authentication methods intended to improve safety and reduce misuse.

The LNK9 remains locked until activated by an authorized user. It can be unlocked using a registered fingerprint, a four-digit passcode entered on the grip, or through a mobile app."

A mobile app? Seriously?

Yet another Gen 3 clone at the mere price of 1K. While being battery operated. When around my kids I often hear "there is an App for that". Not for me there isn't! And how does it work in the Frozen North with gloves on? Hope I remember my PIN!

I won't even buy a gun w/ manual safety. Good luck w/ that "smart" technology.

Curious - does it come with a 'screen saver' mode where it locks automatically after 5 minutes? Smile

"Safety" is gonna get the wrong person killed.

Oh cool! Let’s give master control of the app to law enforcement so that they can make sure we’re using them responsibly! I don’t know what I’d do without big daddy saving me from myself.

I have to think these guys are skimming their take off the front end knowing commercial viability is nearly zero. Maybe even getting public money from NGO’s pushing a “gun safety” agenda.

I guess I just have a hard time believing any actual capitalist would invest in what is basically a project guaranteed to fail.

As someone who was a senior software engineer in a prior life, I do NOT want any unnecessary electronic baloney in any of my mechanical tools. And sure as heck not in any of my firearms.

lol, it won't sell.

It's like years ago Uncle Mike's released a duty holster that unlocked with a fingerprint. No one bought those.

Would there be a market for use in prisons?

I could see - maybe more for non-lethals - where prison guards may value a system like this - provided they are backed up by people with conventional weapons.

Without looking I don’t know if that company makes/sells other firearms, but if gun owners boycotted Ruger because of the “read the manual” warning or some other company because of an internal lock available to the user, they should definitely not ever purchase a gun from that outfit. The development and release of such guns that are advertised to make it impossible for them to be “misused” only makes it easier for the oppressors to demand that they all be like that.
“Yes, we can micro print the serial number on the firing pin.”
“Okay, all guns sold here must have that feature.”

The oppressors learned long ago that outright bans aren’t successful, and that they need to chip away at the edges to create de facto bans that aren’t called bans.

From the link in the OP, box with the gun includes:
quote:

...
Inductive Charging Pad
...
Wall Charging Adapter and USB-C Cord
...

That surely sounds "secure" - a gun with a battery that needs charging and of course, firmware to operate it.

It's bad enough when your phone is out of juice, or some firmware update messes it up. At least you find out about those issues in non-life-threatening situations. Roll Eyes

“select choice of pad placement, right hand or left hand”

So what happens when you find yourself in a situation where you have to shoot non-dominant hand?

Or you get taken out and your wife grabs the gun to save herself?
