OttoSigHeading to Honduras this month - any requests?
Finally breaking down and doing all my UFT stuff to go see my wife's family's farm in Honduras and spend a week there at their house.
Does anyone want anything? As an avid fan of, but not necessarily a connoisseur of Latin American cuisine and food items I can say that the cheese, spices, and snacks found there but not in the US are quite amazing. So if anyone else would like me to try and pick them up a few things please let me know.
I owe a few guys goodie boxes so maybe I can put together some stuff from the trip.

BurtonRWI've always wanted to dive Roatan and once Mrs.BurtonRW found out there are whale sharks there, she's wanted me to take her so she can go snorkeling with them.
Not going w/o a K&R rider on my travel insurance, though. Honduras is sketchy. Godspeed.

I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888

pedropcolaNone of my business but does this mean you and the wife are working things out? If so, good for you guys. Marriage is hard work. Good luck.

The family goes to Roatan at least once a year. I've never joined them but maybe next time. I feel ya on the sketchy part. I won't be sticking around Tegucigalpa very long, we'll head straight out to the countryside where it's "Safer".
But I hope to be in good hands with her family being from there.
Considering our current proximity, please let me know if you guys would be interested in information, help, recommendations, or even getting in on the next trip so you have some help traversing the area down there.

We're trying, I'll say that.
Sometimes I feel like I'm doing Bondo work on a car with no drivetrain, engine, tires, or interior.
Thank you for the support Pcola...we don't always agree with each other but I appreciate it.

pedropcolaDude, married guys got to stick together we are all in similar lifeboats. lol
Enjoy Honduras, it is sketchy down there but beautiful. I did a det down to Tegucigalpa. Enjoyed the plantains and the sloths.

Tn226If it's diving/snorkeling you're looking for, go straight to Roatan. The mainland can be avoided altogether.
I was there last Thanksgiving week (20th trip to Roatan) and the diving as always was spectacular. The people are great and tend to ignore all the crap on the mainland.
Interesting conversation with the owner of Anthony's Key Resort. He was complaining about Biden. Said because he just invited the world in and promised all the free stuff, there's not enough people left in Honduras to work. Expect Honduran coffee to jump in price for example. A good portion of the coffee beans will rot as nobody there to pick them.

CPD SIGBT/DT! Beautiful place!
The diving in Roatan, Utila, Cayos Cochinos, La Ceiba is great!
Honduras has gotten pretty bad since the early 90's when I was there. San Pedro Sula was another fun town. I dont know if I'd want to go there now.
If you can get to the "Hard Hooch" cafe at Soto Cano Air Base, see if you can find my dignity, I know I left it there after a good night of drinking.

LoswsmithCome home safe, and like a few of the others if you had room in your bags for me and my dive gear, I'd be all over Roatan.

konata88Wow. Looks like I missed the boat and won't be able to go there. Not sure how you guys find out about these beautiful, exotic destinations.
Would love to go someplace like that someday: except reasonably convenient, very safe, reasonably priced.

Ronin1069My girlfriend and I do Roatan once a year for 10 days; in fact, we are heading out there Saturday, February 18.
Typically we stay in the west end, what an amazing place! Last year we tried to snorkel out to the reef, but got about halfway and realized it was a lot further out than we thought it was. We did not have enough water or gear with us for that type of swim. Thinking about trying it again this year.

The Smokin' Hot Wife and I will be snorkeling in Roatan Valentines day

Thank you, she is half Honduran so tans like a Tropicana girl, meanwhile I look like a cooked lobster after 30 minutes. Tis why I grew up on the rivers rather than the beach in Florida.

Todd HuffmanWe'll be in Roatan next week as a stop on our cruise. Glad to hear something about the snorkeling, as that's our main outing from the ship.
Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago. February 02, 2023, 08:10 AM

As a government employee I have to request approval for Unofficial Foreign Travel. Mainly because of my clearance.
I'm lucky that I get to do it twice, with the Navy AND the Agency.
FUN FUN FUN - especially when its last minute like this one due to a death in the family.
