Got my old car out for a Rt 66 cruise today and had someone pull up next to me to say how much he loved the smell of the exhaust. What can I say 106 octane with lead does smell wonderful.

106 octane with lead … Hm.

Even as a little kid I liked the smell of diesel exhaust. My little home town was on US 40, and had a bus stop for Greyhound buses. I loved their aroma. Those big, sleek buses seemed so exotic. Yeah, I know I’m an outlier, but I am what I am.

I detest the smell of diesel, but the smell of unburned hydrocarbons from performance engines running high-octane, leaded gasoline brings back memories of my old street-racing days Smile

Nice ride, OP ^5

Lets just say that I have a connection for 100 LL. This tank was a concoction of 110 racing gas, mixed with the 100 LL and some 93 premium. In my youth when I built this engine I never gave it a second thought making the compression 13:1. Wink

Beautiful TA. Brings back many good memories, my brother devoted 30 some years of his life with a 455. He sold it a few years ago. I wish I would have bought it, but I didn’t have the funds.

Thanks, it was painted sometime around 1990 or so, Was garage kept, then went into long term storage for 19 years. Until I got it out and had it freshened up a bit.

Factory color for 1980, called Burgundy Grape. The color and bird are the same as from the factory.

Ha! I also love the smell of diesel exhaust. I remember as a kid my grandmother and I would go to downtown L.A. on the RTD bus, amd I would hang my head out the window just to breathe it in!

Not so much anymore.....just ain't the same.

So while you might be an outlier, there are others.

My first 2 cars were early 80s diesel Mercedes, count me in the outliers.

Nice car, I had a ‘75 back in the day, 400/400 silver over black. Sold it to buy my Roadrunner. Wasn’t Oldsmobile powering those later T/A’s? 6.9L is that an Olds 403 punched out or a stroker?
