I started a thread awhile back but could not find it. So my AC, Not sure if it is the fan or condensor or anthor component. But with AC on it cycles off for 10 seconds and then runs 18 seconds consistently the whole time I am in the car with the AC on. Does that seem right? Does not matter whether I am driving or parked. off 10 on 18. Off and on off and on off and on. To me that does not seem right? Is there a problem or is that how Honda AC works?

Thanks guys.

Well, I have a 2010 Ridgeline. My a\c is indispensable as I cannot tolerate high temperatures. Born in northern NH, close to the Canadian border, I can tolerate cold better than heat. When I turn the a/c on, it runs forever.

Is it cold, or not??

I have a recollection of telling you it is normal to cycle. When the evaporator temperature drops low enough, a thermo-switch shuts off the compressor to prevent evaporator freeze-up. When it starts to warm back up, the compressor engages again. The timing between cycles is temperature-dependent; the timing is a function of this, not the other way around.

Yes, nice and cold. That is what makes me question the operation. It really seems to continuous cycle at 10-18 every time I drive it. No matter what. That seems like an issue. Like maybe I have a bad switch as you mentioned it.

Just one more thing. Are both electric fans running when the compressor is engaged, and shutting off when it isn't?

i am not sure E. What ever I hear running is associated with the AC. Turn the AC of the fan or compressor quits cycling I am not sure what is cycling. I only hear one thing. Off for 10 seconds then on for 18 seconds.

Bad thermostat?

Honda AC does seem to be one of their weak spots.

ORC, although I have not actually timed the cycles, my observation on my previous 05 & current 2015 Pilot seem to do the same. My opinion is that the pressure switch differential is narrow by design. You could say, an inherent characteristic of design. Note: a dirty cabin filter will aggravate /influence the condition.

The air conditioning in my 2011 Pilot cycles the same way in hot weather. Been doing it for years. Since my car is well maintained, and the AC cools the car, I concluded that it is the Honda way.

Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

I'd find someone to put some gauges on it and check your freon. It sounds like it could be just slightly low. Has enough to chill the air, but low enough the compressor has to cycle more often than it should.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."
