After 3 cancellations due to Covid hospital overload since 3/20, I'm finally getting a new knee today with the local guru and his Mako robot. I'm hoping the rehab isn't as bad as the ACL reconstruction surgery was, but it is what it is... and I need a break from pain and inability to do what I want to.

I've had a couple of friends get this done and while they say it's painful, they get better and end up walking fairly normally.

He played well. We won.

Good luck!

Good luck. As far as everything I've seen the replacement is easier on you than the ACL. My knees still aren't right after ACL surgery. The people who I've talked to that had replacement had zero issues and quick recovery.

Good luck!

Do the PT they tell you to do, post-surgery. It will make all the difference in the world for recovery and for knee function in the future.

Yes, do the rehab as they tell you to. My dad had knee replacement back in the summer, Got pneumonia from the surgery and had to spend 10 days in ICU because of that. He poo-pooed the rehab folks away as he was not mentally right for a while, then spent 3 weeks in a rehab facility but still didn't improve much. About 6 weeks ago he had to have them put him to sleep and break up the scar tissue that had formed because he didn't do the early rehab.

Today, 5 months after the surgery, he still walks with a pretty bad limp, has to pause going from sitting to standing to stretch the knee out and routinely uses a cane. I think he may eventually recover completely, but it has not been an easy road for him.

My big bro has had both of his done, years apart. His hips too. He said he wished he hadn’t waited cause it was wayyy easier (recovery wise) using new technology.

Good luck and mind what they tell you to do.

My coworker is 55ish and used to walk with a tremendous amount of knee pain. Anything physical and he’d be laid up for 3-days.

He got knee replacement August 2020, and last ski season flew to the Rockies 4x to go downhill skiing. He has a renewed lease on life with the knee replacement and I hope similar for the OP.

You’ll love it. I had acl repair, and everyone I compared to with total replacement had a shorter and easier recovery than me.
Best of luck.

I have had both knees down a few years apart. The worst thing for me was second knee, insurance changed the rules and I only got 1-day stay in hospital! Pain pills for 2-days and limping around. Not nearly as bad as one would think it is. I treat them gently now so they last my lifetime. As everyone who has had it done says, I should have had it done way earlier to avoid the pain in walking.

Good luck, keep us posted.

I need my rt knee done really bad. Its wore flat ass out. Knee injections used to help for awhile but aren't doing that much now.

I would also like to get off the pain meds. Been on them way to long.

Good luck with yours. Smile

I have also replaced both over a three year period. The outcome with the first was so good I didn't hesitate to do the second. I am a firm member of the "Should Have Done It Sooner Club". Do ALL the PT including the DIY stuff they give you as homework. Squirrel away some good meds for PT days, particularly early on.

Left knee replaced with Stryker prosthesis and the Stryker Mako robot system, Surgery was about an hour longer than anticipated due to extensive bone spurs that need to be chiseled off. Stayed overnight in hospital last night, but home now.

Fairly painful, but pain meds are helping as is the Breg Polar ice water pump/cuff. I had one of these for my ACL reconstruction about 15 years ago; worth their weight in gold.

Was told pain will reach max level about 72 hours post surgery, so have a couple of days to get ready. The doc wants my leg elevated and straight unless I'm walking with the walker or doing he multitude of post-op exercises. Formal PT to begin in about 2 weeks after post-op visit #1 with the surgeon.

Really good to hear about your success stories, as I'm pretty miserable right now.
