he makes some great observations from the data, and I think he hit the nail on the head - no tiktok for longer songs, no streaming and a return to the use of real instruments

I also think that the song length is a direct result of the current attention span of today's consumer

I follow Rick Beato but I had not seen that one. That’s very interesting.

I think the decline of Hip Hop is due to its abject similarity. Look up “how to make a trap beat” and see how the rules are very strict. From the instruments/samples used to the patterns. Want to make a neo-soul (or whatever the subgenre is called) you better not have a snare, it’s a rim shot and a Rhodes or you’re getting ostracized. It’s way too formulaic.

I think guitar is coming back because it can’t be programmed to the same degree as a sampled beat.

Funny you should post this. I actually commented on this video saying that I believe some of the end results have to do with politics. The rise in country and rock vs hip hop I assume to be a shift to the right.
