Iphone experts: A quandry...step inside...
Okay, here is the deal:
I took a few videos and pics with my wife's iphone 8xs. I have an iphone 10xs. I sent the videos and pics to my phone via text, and also saved them to my camera roll.

When you click on the videos and the "live" pics in the text I sent, there is sound. When you click on the videos and pics on my camera roll, the videos play, but there is no sound. The videos also have no sound on my wife's phone, the one that actually took the videos.

What's going on here and how can I get the sound to play when clicking on them from my camera roll? Yes, the volume is up, and I have reset the phone several times. Remember, the sound is there when clicking on the text message (only). Confused

When you click the video in your camera roll it’s more of a preview.

Look at the bottom of the screen there should be a tool bar with a speaker icon with a line through it. Click the icon and the sound should play

If the video is in landscaped ( phone sideways) the speaker icon is on the top

Now I feel like an idiot. Don’t know why I didn’t see it. And I think I’ve had an iPhone for well over a decade. Guess it’s time to get new glasses!
Thank you for pointing out the incredibly obvious to me!

Don’t feel bad. I think that’s a relatively new setting. It takes some getting used to. Razz

I agree. These smart phones are supposed to be intuitive. So when I come across a problem, I futz around until I fix it. Then I wonder or forget what I did to fix the problem and I have to repeat the process next time.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." You might look into AirDrop. I send files that way now. All apple devices have it built in for file transfer, it works well and fast. AirDrop uses bluetooth to originate a dedicated wifi connection between any devices in range.

Once activated on on each phone you then just use it as needed via the share option just like sharing a photo to text. The receiving device will ask for permission before allowing the transfer.

Texting large files can downsize them without notice of doing so.

I don't have the details to hand, atm, but AirDrop has security issues that, last I knew, had yet to be addressed. I recommend not leaving AirDrop enabled in listen mode.

Airdrop is a very nice tool. I wouldn't avoid using it in the circumstances one would consider normal for family members in close proximity to each other (its very short range). But I wouldn't leave any of the communication protocols enabled when you are not using it as all of them have some vulnerabilities.
