From a correspondent.....

I used to think I was just a regular guy, but . . .

I was born white, which now, whether I like it or not, makes me a racist;

I am a fiscal and moral conservative, which by today's standards, makes me a fascist;

I am heterosexual, which according to gay folks, now makes me a homophobic;

I am non-union, which makes me a traitor to the working class and an ally of big business;

I am a Christian, which now labels me as an infidel;

I believe in the 2nd Amendment, which now makes me a member of the vast gun lobby;

I am older than 70, which makes me a useless old man;

I think and I reason, therefore I doubt much that the main stream media tells me, which must make me a reactionary;

I am proud of my heritage and our inclusive American culture, which makes me a xenophobe;

I value my safety and that of my family and I appreciate the police and the legal system, which makes me a right-wing extremist;

I believe in hard work, fair play, & fair compensation according to each individual's merits, which today makes me an anti-socialist;

I believe in the defense and protection of the homeland for and by all citizens, which now makes me a militant;

Recently, a woman called me and my friends a “basket of Deplorables;”

Please help me come to terms with the new me....because I'm just not sure who I am anymore!

I would like to thank all my friends for sticking with me through these abrupt, new found changes in my life and my thinking.

I just can't imagine or understand what's happened to me so quickly.

Funny...it's all just taken place over the last 7 or 8 years.

As if all this crap wasn't enough to deal with, I'm now afraid to go into either restroom....

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Wish that was all just tongue in cheek.

I'd say, all of this makes you a true American. Cool

I have come to some of the same conclusions about myself over the past decade. I don't feel that its who I have become, rather who we have always been. Although by todays standards all of these realizations are viewed very negatively, this small and diminishing group is the standard to live by. The small company of the few and righteously indignant are preferred over the masses of zombies that proliferate in this society, and the world at large. As evil persists and becomes greater, so will the good, its a balance. The evil is consuming those that are not grounded in their morals, and it is an opportunity for those of us with a moral compass, to become bolder and stand for what really matters. You are one of the good guys, as am I, and its lonely in a world like this. Just remember, there will always be people like us around. I fall back to Romans 12:21, "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good".

Being evil or good always has a cost, I prefer to pay the price for being good.
Cheer up you are in good company, although it may not feel like you are.

I guess I fit all of that, except I have a few more calendar turns before I am 70.
