Any comments on this recent trick: recorded phone voice urgently reporting 'suspicious activity on your Amazon account' for $1140 being temporarily suspended pending investigation....press 1 to talk with our staff to confirm details" or similar verbiage. This is second time a similar call has come to my attention.

I got that one too. Every business in town has a help wanted sign in the door. Get a real job. Anytime I get a VM, email etc. like that, I contact the company/financial/agency directly to inquire. That is the quickest way to confirm if you have a problem or not. Some scams are blatant, and some are better at "impersonating". I never answer unknown callers, do not call back an numbers from VM, and never click on links or reply to emails or SMS texts. (I also dealt with this crap throughout my 27 years in IT as I informed everyone to contact me if they ever had questions, and if they didn't have questions, call me sooner...) Glad I am done with all of it. This stuff will never end, and no one in the aforementioned companies/financial/agencies really care that anyone is being contacted, as they don't have time and money to battle an unseen source. I know this is a scam and just hang up. I don't know how they get a payoff of it. Anyone?

nice visual Thanks for responses. I just called the Help # & was told same basics as above, they took the calling # and would report it to their fraud section. Also he advise (of course) Amaz*n would never ask for specific account or card # or actual amount of $, only individual phone/mail address.

They have a hard time getting through to me since I get so many expiring car warranty and free Hilton vacation calls. Now that I've entered geezer territory, Medicare open enrollment and drug plan folks are giving the total scammers a run for their money. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

Curious as to why amazon couldn’t be spelled out in the title?

I would think they're looking for someone who doesn't know any better that answers when asked 'to confirm your account information'. Once they have a valid account they can order things or look up your saved credit card information. "If Gun Control worked, Chicago would look like Mayberry, not Thunderdome" - Cam Edwards

I guess they would have to continue "phishing" for more info. Simply pressing "1" isn't enough albeit I hang up before that point.

agree on non answering technique; in this case I've been anticipating an important call this AM from a number not on my contact list. This particular call slipped thru during that window of accessibility. re "*" in title: my goal was to not imply actual company behavior with suspicious contact not actually linked to the type of activity described. Now back to the endless car warranty & insurance opportunities....This message has been edited. Last edited by: signewt,

About a week ago I got that call 15 to 20 times a day for three strait days. I never answered, so I guess they gave up on me. AT&T text scams. These are pretty sneaky. Their URL has an altered letter. To view your bill and pay text.

Down the Rabbit Hole |
Some of the clickbait emails I receive suspiciously coincide with legit online orders. I recently ordered an item that was being shipped by USPS. I received an email that looked like a legit USPS email telling me the package could not be delivered and to re-schedule using the provided link. I copied the provided tracking number and went directly to the USPS website and tried it. As expected, No information was available. Like the C*r Warranty Authority, but Amaz*n actually has a web presence. It is an obvious phishing scam. Hang up immediately. Even better, don't answer unrecognized numbers. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.
