Neighbor just finished a grocery run for me which included 6 nice ears of corn. I remembered Jim's almost annual posts about how easy and effective preparation was by using a microwave oven. Did a search, found a bunch of threads with his input, and of course the YouTube video. This will be done this Memorial Day weekend! This message has been edited. I’d point out that this method of husking works no matter how it’s cooked. I grill them and still peel this way. These go to eleven.

I love corn fixed this way. I think I read about it here around 4 years ago, and have been fixing it that way ever since. It’s just so damn easy, and comes out perfect every time.

This is the only way I do corn on the cob these days.

I guess you can do how ever many fit in the microwave? Increased time? I serve ~19 people when we have a family cookout. I usually butter season and wrap in foil to grill. Could this be done the day before and overnight them in the fridge for times sake? Collecting dust.

We love to start off our corn on the cob by nuking them first on a plate with plastic wrap, before putting them on the grill. Once on the grill and going, starting to get color and grill marks, then start applying soy sauce splashes and turning to make them super delicious. The aroma of the soy sauce hitting the hot, hot grill is glorious Yummmmmmmm

I do it like this but I soak the corn in water and then it steams it so it cooks faster and more evenly while on the grill. Like frayed ends said it husks the same no matter how it’s cooked.

No grill, green egg, smoker, etc. here in my old age. So the microwave is the ticket for us. Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club! USN (RET), COTEP #192

I do it this way in recent years. It freaks out my Sweet Bride, as she has a more traditional & complex method. Made a deal....if I do the corn, THIS is the way I will do it. If SHE wants it some other way, she can fix it. Hats off to Jim Shugart for the introduction. **************~~~~~~~~~~ "I've been on this rock too long to bother with these liars any more." ~SIGforum advisor~ "When the pain of staying the same outweighs the pain of change, then change will come."~~sigmonkey

This is a good reminder. I've seen it before but always forget to do it. Will try it this weekend. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

Important to remember corn doesn't necessarily cook, it just softens, you can eat it straight off the stalk. So any preparation method is just making it more palatable. Shit don't digest either lol. 10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

I like to serve COTC with grill marks, so I use Jim's microwave, shuck (so easy), then heat up on the grill to get the charring. Best of both ways!

Damn, this sounds good. I'll give it a try this weekend. Another way is to coat the corn with garlic butter when hot. Very good. Jim ________________________ "If you can't be a good example, then you'll have to be a horrible warning" -Catherine Aird
