This afternoon at a local car dealership which displays a very large US flag as flying at half mast. I"am guessing due today is a aniversry of the attack on Pearl Harbor Dec. 7th, 1941. Several other flags at other location were being flown at full mast. When I got home made a phone call to the dealership to thank them for remembering our veterans and the price that they paid for us. .... Did any others notice any thing simular with displayed flags ???? .......................................... drill sgt.

I noticed that schools had them at half-staff today. The thing that irks me, many people have been flying them at half-staff since the Rona started. They've drunk the punch!!

Yes the big flagpole in the center of my town’s downtown for over 100 years was at half staff today. Didn’t notice any others but also wasn’t looking. The flagpole downtown can be seen for a long ways away.

Noticed the school that my kids attend had them at half mast. The storage locker facility down the road did as well.

Part of me thinks it's almost time to fly them upside down.

Two homes in my area are flying the flag in distress.

I figure the woke blokes driving past are too stupid to even know what it means.

There have been a few in my town that have flown upside down for the last four years. To be honest, I haven't noticed if they're been turned up.

I gave some thought to doing that, we'll see what happens in the next few weeks.

My flag is on a fixed pole which cannot be lowered so I attach two black streamers ILO half-staff.

Hello!

I learned this recently so I thought I would pass it along here. A flag on a ship is on a mast; a flag on land is on a staff or pole. So on land the correct expression is “flags were at half staff today” not “... at half mast today.” My dad was in the Navy during Vietnam and he shared this tidbit with me, so I pass it along when the opportunity presents itself.

Thank you!

Jim

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ IIRC the display of the upside down flag dates back to the old sailing ship days as well as radio silence during WW2 naval operations as well as land operations w/radio silence with the meaning of distress and immedate aid/help was needed. After Sept 11th terrorist attack had a upside down flag in rear window as we as both rear side windows of my jeep cherokee. Had many people question why and after giving this answer the started to get it.

You'd never know flags in Illinois were at half mast for any particular reason--they've been at half mast here since early Covid. Pritzker says we're in a perpetual 911 and won't raise them.
