Got a mechanic friend that told me about Redback Bamboo fiber socks. Tool truck branded, but redback is oem. Extremely soft and do a good job wicking sweat and with odor. But I'm starting to wear thru the heels after less than 6 months. 6 pairs in rotation, so about once a week wear. Generally only when I'm away from home, as I prefer to be barefoot as much as possible. Pulled one up before putting on my shoe today and it split across the back of my heel. I'm just curious if this is normal before I abandon ship and look for something else...
Yes, I know wool is the sock of choice for most here, but $15 a pair is a little hard to take.
If I'm not barefoot, I'm typically in Ariat boots. After trial & error through a few brands, the Wrangler boot socks have become my go to. Thick enough for comfort in boots, but not overly hot.
Not familiar with that brand specifically, but I just bought a half dozen similar. Obviously can't comment on durability yet.
Clothing derived from bamboo is excellent for odor control and breathability. So-called "bamboo" fabric is actually made from a substance called viscose that's been derived from the bamboo (when made synthetically it's sold under the name Rayon). It's known for it's anti-bacterial properties and resistance to absorbing body odors.
Bamboo fiber is twice as strong as cotton, but durability more depends on the fiber quality and manufacture of the specific brand.
I tried some bamboo underwear a few years back. Very light and breezy, but it didn’t last. They literally fell apart after about a year, maybe less. IME, wool is expensive, but I have several pair of wool socks that are several years old.

I wear Redback socks, super comfy, had one pair not last long, but the others seems to hold up well. The only thing I don't like is they take forever to dry, pull my clothes out of the dryer, everything is dry except the Redback socks. Just lay them out to air dry. Also like the fact that they are USA made. Get them from the MATCO truck.

I have a theory that although bamboo fiber is much stronger than cotton, it is also smoother, meaning its ability to hold a secure weave is actually less.
That said, I still generally prefer bamboo, for its other advantages.
8 inch lace up work boots or 9 inch redwing loggers are the majority of what I wear if not barefoot. Neither allows a lot of movement in the heel. I do have a narrow foot, so I can't wear low running shoes or slip on boots for that reason. I'll usually walk right out of them.
Like I said, I only had one sock go out of these 6 pairs. But other cotton socks have done the same. I'll wear these til the rest either prove out or wear out. I was just curious if anyone else had similar issues.
This forum turned me on to Thorlo socks. It’s all I wear now. Best socks ever, without question. I have calf length for winter, and ankle/no show for summer.

As they wear out one at a time replace them one at a time with Merino wool. Darn Tough is as good a place to start as any, but honestly I get great service from REI store brand. For me the medium hiker is the sweet spot. Second place are from Costco, very very cost effective, and wear great. However they might be too short.
