Pretty good display in Spartanburg SC, kinda amazing!

I've seen the northern lights many times. Typically they'll resemble green sheets hanging on a clothesline in the northern sky. Last night's display was something I did not expect. It was like a river of particles flying WNW-ESE. Greens, blues, reds, whites.... Amazing and humbling at the same time. It makes you feel really small and insignificant.

Pretty good view south of Buffalo last night. It was something I always wanted to see but never thought I would.

Seeing them in Northern Arkansas.

Two nights in a row it has been too overcast for me to see them. There is still a chance Sunday night but it won't be as good as the previous two nights according to the news.

Nice!! No joy for me though - I kept watch from sundown to about midnight (not continuously).

Hours. From a few before midnight to a few after.

I couldn't see anything either, but it's not over yet. Friday's solar storm was upgraded to a 5 (out of 5), and expected to continue Sunday night, though probably not as strong.

Was up and outside at 2am. Moon had set and no sign of any aurora

If you can't see it with the naked eye use your phone camera. It picks up what you can't see yourself.

Saturday afternoon a friend of mine scouted nice areas with good backgrounds and little if any artificial light. We warmed up the Corvettes and met at 2330hrs.

We took some test shots and got the camera set and waited for the light show to begin!

At 0140hrs we called it quits. Temps were dipping into the low 40's and bars were about to let out. That was disappointing.

We even got them over here in Middle England last night! You needed to get your eyes accustomed to what you were seeing for a few minutes, due to the unfamiliar wavelengths of the display emissions, but once your eyes got attuned it was an incredible free show.
