Modern Day Savage
As usual, SIGforum members come through. I was in the kitchen making Christmas brownies for watching It's a Wonderful Life tonight and Miracle on 34th Street Christmas Day, and had this thread pulled up on on my phone and listening to your suggestions.
Some of your music selections I had heard the song, but never that particular version.. but, in some cases I'm hearing new Christmas songs for the first time, and I gotta say that I'm blown away by a few of them.
Please keep the suggestions coming as I'll be listening to them through Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
I'm going to add a few more:
Angels heard on high, sung by a thousand people, including the Mormon Tabernacle Choir...see if this version doesn't move you
I didn't make it all the way through some of extended play 8 hour suggestions, but just about everything I listened to. We have such great suggestions here that I plan on resurrecting this thread next Christmas season to see if we can add to it.
If anyone hasn't heard it yet, I'd strongly encourage you to give a listen to the suggestion Ironbutt made with Kaylee Rogers singing Hallelujah. Absolutely amazing!

That suggestion was devoid of a single shred of Christmas spirit...and I loved it! The guitar and vocals were absolutely grinding. I'm going to load it on my phone. I'd use it as a ringtone but I'm not sure who I'd assign it to.

My wife thinks it's inappropriate due to the dancers suggestive dancing. I think it cool. Crank up!
Maybe just a smidge naughty...but I liked it! Sort of an SRV Christmas version.
RichardC, I had never heard it before, but that I am Santa Clause version of Iron Man was absolutely a blast! Nice suggestion!

Two more that I really enjoy at Christmastime are the Eurythmics version of Winter Wonderland and the Annie Lennox / Al Green version of Put A Little Love in Your Heart.
Honestly, when DH first came out and we heard Christmas in Hollis and DMC stuff in general, we kind of rolled our eyes at it and blew it off, but over the years, especially catching what Rap/ Hip Hop has become, Run DMC and Christmas in Hollis sort of morphed into something just fun and funny. Not my favorite Christmas song, but still just a fun song to throw in the mix.
I liked some of the Eurythmics/ Annie Lennox stuff on the radio, but hadn't heard Winter Wonderland before... and Scrooged is one of those Christmas movies that I really like when I catch it... and yet I always somehow forget to chase it down, and it's been a couple years since I last watched it. Somehow missed the fact that Put a little love in your heart was part of the soundtrack.

Over the years I've caught a couple songs by The Pogues, but never this one. Nice suggestion.

After you posted this I got enough of a chuckle to send it to my Italian SiL as part of my Christmas greeting.

Naw, you got in under the wire. Long time fan of Suzy Boguss, and really like a lot of Michael Martin Murphey too, but he has a bit of a state following here.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to you and your families!
Please post up your suggestions!
Kicking off the 2022 edition of this thread I'm going to exercise a little thread starter prerogative and post a suggestion that is technically a movie clip, however it includes some wonderful singing...and while I've never seen this particular movie, Joyeaux Noel, I've always liked this story of Christmas during WW I and the temporary truce that was declared.
Even with the Spanish subtitles and with it being a little out-of-sync, I like the original black and white clips included in this version of a Christmas classic. Think I'll have a slice of the same pie she is having too.
This is a nifty acapella version Children Go Where I Send Thee by Kenny Rogers featuring the group Home Free. At the end of the clip they briefly talk about how Kenny ended up working with the group by happenstance.
For those of us that celebrate Christmas in the tropics... or, at least appreciate the classics. I really enjoy the island and Navy decorations in this video clip.
Silent Night will always be a part of my Christmas celebration and memories but, as beautiful as the song is, it is often over stylized. I usually prefer a soloist with beautiful delicate but clear vocals, but in this case I think the Sparks Sisters have managed to blend their voices into a beautiful rendition of this timeless classic.
