I have a house out in the middle of corn fields. Long, straight 2 lane roads with a 45 MPH limit.

If you want to drive 100 MPH, it's not a horrible choice of roads.

I would assume expectations for driving company cars is clearly laid out, as are the penalties for not following them. If any infraction results in firing, there is great incentive to not get ticketed. I doubt many jobs are lost with a single citation while driving a company car. If job depends on a perfect driving record, there is great incentive to go the speed limit. Few could resist romping on it at least once during a day of driving a performance car.

In government, it’s said that you can misappropriate a million bucks but if everyone loves you nothing happens. If they hate you - you can get terminated for coming in :15 late. Can’t imagine it being different in the corporate world.

If these two were engineers shaking down preproduction models nothing may happen. Otherwise...who knows?

The first batch of saleable vehicles produced are called the captured test fleet. These are driven by execs and engineers prior to sale to use for final debug prior to officially going on sale at the dealers. Most of these will then go into the employee fleet and later be sold with mileage in the company employee purchase program. I had lunch with a friend right after Christmas and he had a photo of a 2020 Vet in his driveway. He said it was a friend that was passing through town and he was the mechanical engineer that designed the transmission. They gave him the car to "test out" and he had been driving it for 6+ months including a lot of track time. Evidently his "testing" included things like throwing it into Reverse at 150MPH!

You know, if you're going to lose your job, might as well go out in a blaze of glory...

When I was young I started down the road of becoming an auto mechanic. I worked for a time as “new car get ready” at a Chevy dealer in west suburban Denver. I felt like it was my obligation, when test driving a new Corvette, to take it out on westbound I-70, point it toward Genesee Mountain and make sure there were no problems at 100 mph. My gift to the new owner.

recently someone I know that has own several corvettes sold his latest and purchased a NEW c8 vette..... at about 5000 miles had major tranmission failure sitting at a traffic light when it refused to move foward or reverse.. after some time transmission removal/disassembly/ reaserch could not explain reason for failure.. a brand new factory transmission installed after almost 2 months in the shop...warranty no cost to owner... can"t decide whether to keep or sell.............drill sgt.

A 2021 opens up a whole new can of worms. Will they raise the price? Will they add new colors, or delete some we have now? Will they add desirable options? Etc, etc.

I bet he means 8-speed. I'd like to see the final tally on that boondoggle.

Did they tow and impound the cars? That had to be ugly.

I'm actually looking at the C8 convertible as my next car since BMW is doing away with hard top convertibles.
