dlc444I slept at a Sheraton last night, but I would say no.
There are services that will arrange pet travel that may offer supplemental insurance, but United probably wouldn't offer $25K if your seatmate was sucked out the window. They have so many outs due to various exemptions the airline industry has.

It seems to me that any law that is not enforced and can't be enforced weakens all other laws.

ryan81986I used to work in the insurance industry (auto liability) as an adjuster. Assuming they are covered, which I'm sure they are under some sort of liability policy, you're not going to get anywhere near $25k if the dog dies, even if a plane crashes into the dog. The most I ever paid for a dog was $2k. No pain and suffering, no emotional distress. In the eyes of the law the dog is just property and valued at replacement cost. Not trying to sound cold, that's just unfortunately how it works.
And I don't believe your homeowners policy covers anything that happens to pets, only damage that they may cause to other people/property.

ffipsWith the right policy or rider(s), insurance will cover darn near anything.

That would be worth about $1-2 million.

Your emotional upset at viewing your seatmate being sucked out of the plane would be worth something.

ryan81986That's why I said 1-2. Generally speaking fatalities pay out about $1 million.

No, because your pets are not worth $25K. I don't know that homeowner's policies cover pets in the first place, but if they did, they would cover the market value of the animal, not its subjective value to you.
You need something like animal life insurance, and I don't know if that exists.

Simple rule of thumb when considering taking my hound with me on a trip...If I can't drive, I don't go. No pet of mine will ever spend a minute on a commercial plane.

As said, anywhere from $200-2000 depending on the breed of dog and adoption/purchase costs.

StramboMost homeowner's policies don't cover pets (the pet itself or any damage it may cause). However, some have a token amount like $500-$750 for pet injuries related to a covered homeowner's insurance loss. Like pet treatment for fire/smoke inhalation.
If I'm dealing with a fire loss and a pet dies and the policy has that limit I just pay it (I don't ask for bills or anything). I don't see how there would be any coverage for a pet on a plane though, there is no damage to your covered home to trigger a claim.
