Now where did I put my Tony Gwynn bobblehead?

I’m wondering if bobbleheads are unique to the US…

“MILWAUKEE (AP) — A new museum in Milwaukee may well hold the largest collection of bobbleheads anyone has ever seen, displaying more than 6,500 figures of athletes, mascots, celebrities, animals, cartoon characters, politicians and more.

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum recently opened and was the brainchild of friends Phil Sklar and Brad Novak, who started collecting the figures 16 years ago.

The plan for the museum was announced several years ago. At the time, they were looking for contributions of money, other tangible gifts, and, of course, bobbleheads. I have absolutely no interest in the little bobbers, but I received a “very nice,” limited-edition one for serving on a committee some years ago that’s still in the original packaging. If I ever find where my wife stashed it, it’s going in the mail to them.

On a somewhat related “national museum” note, my wife and I recently visited the Nation Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada. We were very impressed with the collection and the other exhibits they had to keep it interesting to members of both sexes. This was the Harrah Collection so there was plenty of money behind the original collection and setting up the museum; hopefully, the Bobblehead folks will do a similarly nice job with their subject.

You should have seen it 30+ years ago before they built that nice facility. It was cars upon cars in a warehouse no rhyme or reason. Bill Harrah was a maniac he’d buy cars and miss corporate payroll sometimes. It was reported that he’d buy several of the same model just different colors. The museum now is much much better as you note. The Gilmore museum near Kalamazoo is pretty awesome as well.
