Morning gentlemen...my brother lives in the People's Republik of North Carolina and cannot purchase a rifle from me as I live in Alabama. NC has a rule where you can purchase long arms from contiguous states and unfortunately NC does not touch Alabama. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance....

My advice is contrary to the law, which in 15 years I’ve never heard of being actually enforced or even discussed in the situation you describe. Furthermore, our pistol purchase permit law (completely different but bringing it up to convey my point) is another law I have never heard anyone being charged with violating in these situations. Or ever. Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here. Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard. -JALLEN "All I need is a WAR ON DRUGS reference and I got myself a police thread BINGO." -jljones

Did you both live in the same State at a time when he was old enough to own? Maybe he’s just getting a rifle back he took ownership of years ago? A ‘deer hunting’ rifle? I’m not trying to set you up for the slammer, just saying.

Triangle Shooting Academy north of RDU airport; Fuquay Gun in Fuquay-Varina. Have done transfers at both...F-V is a bit of a drive but I think its a better store. TSA has kind of a guntry club atmosphere / prices. --------------------------------------- It's like my brain's a tree and you're those little cookie elves.

My brother works up in the Research Triangle Park, is in his late 40's, and is a stickler for the law. After taking him and his kids to my home range here in BHM and he decided he would like to have an AR. He is not currently in a financial position to purchase the rifle he really wants as he is paying off my sister-in-laws medical and post grad school fees. I have a number of ARs and offered to sell him one of my Rock Rivers. He has taken me up on the offer and we are trying to work out the details. Sourdough and Chongo.....while that would have been my MO in the past unfortunately I cant take that avenue at the moment. Just too much Class III stuff in the safe to risk it. Jimbo....I will run that recommendation by my brother and let him know as legally transferring it from BHM to RDU would be my preferred route. Kudos to you all on the quick answers....much appreciated.

Don't Panic |
Your brother will enjoy Triangle Shooting Academy - that's my indoor range of choice and it's very close to the Research Triangle area where he works. If that's who you wind up using for the FFL transfer, you may want to suggest he check out their range while he's there. Nice facilities and they have rentals available - pistols, long-arms and some full-auto options as well. TSA website

We will be driving through around June going to my new duty station in NC. I'll buy it form you, but because I'm a lefty ill find it doesn't quite suit my needs and I will find a buyer, from your suggestion of course, to sell to in NC. BTW, I own property in Alabama and am a native born NC so no laws would be broken...
