Il CattivoI got a new job!!! ***Three year update on page three***
quote:
I increased productivity by 20% in the first three months...I have been told I am too straightforward, I seem gruff (I don’t walk around with a silly toothy smile all day, laughing like a mental case, but I’m a pretty pleasant person to be around, or so I am told), I have too rigid posture (“can’t you slouch like a normal person.”) was commented to me at one point.
I know somebody who's actually like that. Eventually he became what he called a "cleanup specialist" - a consultant who would come in, straighten out the messes in an operation, get paid well and move on.
OTOH, I find myself wondering how many problems you had to straighten out at the position you're leaving were born of the owner's inability (or being intimidated by the prospect of) assessing performance, going face to face with employees in order to make changes, being willing to set checkpoints and see to it that they were met, etc., etc., etc. Maybe I'm reading the owner wrong, but its surprising how many entrepreneurs there are out there who have great ideas but are just terrified by the prospect of engaging in basic comptrolling (if that's a word) and management.

Pipe SmokerVery happy for you Beancooker! Now you can buy some top quality beans!
BTW – a pressure cooker is wonderful for hydrating and cooking dried beans.

BigNCCongratulations! That sounds like a cool gig in General. (yeah, I'm Punny.)
That entire industry is fascinating when you think of the entire farm to table chain. I had a friend who was the southeastern Manager for one of those big restaurant supply companies. He had some really interesting stories, met some cool people and terrified me into storing and growing food. lol

The owner refused to give me a performance evaluation.
Ya, reminds me a bit of my last job. I was knocked on my yearly review every year for 12 years because I hadn't taken any additional internal company training. Thing is, I had taken everything they offered and I actually wrote the training manuals, procedures and the testing material for my department...

When I gave them 6 months notice they hired two people to take my place. When I told them that was half enough you should have seen their faces!
Congratulations on the new position... best of luck!

sjtilli stuck with a position far longer than I should have, mostly because of our kid in school. When she graduated, I left.
Relocating was expensive, but the pay was better. More important, I felt appreciated for the first time in years. My wife says that's all I talk about--being appreciated.
