Going to have to help my best buddy over the rainbow bridge soon
I never had a dog as a kid as my parents would only have cats as pets. While on vacation a dozen years ago my wife fell in love with a dog that she saw. After talking to the owners we found that the dog, Bella, was a LabraDoodle and being that the dog was part poodle she was hypo-allergenic and didn't shed! All great news for my allergy-suffering wife.

On the way home from vacation we stopped at a breeder who had puppies available and found a pup that chose us, a white/beige mini-LabraDoodle. He was pretty mellow for a pup, very social and loveable. He just couldn't understand why someone wouldn't want to pet him! So Charlie became my and my kids very first dog.

Aside from a few costly incidents he has been a great dog. Couldn't ask for a better dog IMHO.

Charlie has been slowing down for the past several months but we weren't concerned until just last weekend. His breathing had become a bit labored and he didn't have a lot of energy. A trip to the vet confirmed our worst fears. My buddy has cancer on his liver and spleen.

Meds helped him out quite a bit for a few days but he isn't doing as well today, his 12th birthday. I am afraid he will tell me soon that it is time. It will be one of the worst days of my life, and one of the hardest things I will ever have to do. Frown

I have been there and sympathize with you. My Rottie developed cancer in his nose and sinuses. The vet and I decided that prolonging his misery with treatments wasn't fair to him.

A very hard decision, but the right one. It will be hard, but you and he will know when it's time.

BTDT!

Not pleasant even to consider, let alone having to do it.

Condolences to all affected!

Tears just thinking about it, and what we went through when we lost our little buddy after 10 years.

The loss of any family member is tragic. My deepest condolences.

Sorry to hear that. It's heart wrenching to do, but absolutely necessary to do.

Sorry, there is nothing that makes it better.

spend the day or weekend spoiling the shit out of him! Then when you take him to the vet you should be there. It's not fun. But I believe we owe them that, to hold them and pet them until the end. It was one of the worst things I've ever done but I'm glad I did it, he wasn't alone at the end.

Very sorry to hear this bad news. It is one of the toughest things I have ever done. I feel your pain and emotion. I know they say "Time heals", but until that time gets here, it hurts.

All the best to your family!

So sorry to hear, I know what you are going through, it's a very difficult decision to make. When you decide it's time to let him go, you need to keep this in your mind....you are making the ultimate gift of love by not letting him suffer anymore.
My thoughts are with you.

God made dogs for man. I have been where you are twice. I know just what you are feeling. Very hard but you will endure. You will get another dog one day and you will be glad you did. Try to be strong. I am very sorry.

So sorry to hear this. I know what you are going to be going through, and it was the worst thing I had to do in my 59 years. I thought I was ready when I told the vet to go ahead.....I wasn’t and it took a long time for me to get to the point of thinking of another pet. I swore for the longest time no more dogs....after a year or so, my wife sent me a picture of a schnauzer pup she was looking at....I said no way but after a week I said if she was still at the breeder we would get her.....six years later and Ellie Mae is right now on my lap as I type this on my IPad. It is a hard road I try not to think about how horrible it was. Doing the right thing should not have to feel so bad, but it does. Prayers sent your way.

+10. Don't just drop him off. Both you and he deserve more as the last memory they have of you and you of them. I was holding each of our last two and their last breath and dropping of their head in their comfortable "Dads" arms was something I will never forget.

Sorry, getting teary eyed right now and prayers said and sent.

Springfield = it's tough, no way about. Each and every time we do it, it's rough. Sorry to hear the journey to the rainbow bridge is in your pup's future. Hold him and he will let you know that he will see you again, but he needs to go away now. The blurry screen hits again.

I had to put one of the best feline pets down a couple of months ago. Suddenly. Cried my eyes out. Hit me like a brick.

You, as the human, have to minimize their suffering.

Sometimes I don't understand having pets. They enrich our lives immensely, but when acquiring one who ever says that they are looking forward to being heartbroken a decade from now.

I will always have some critter as a companion.

Sorry you have to make this decision.

I have put down 5 dogs, the hardest part of my life, but the most important. Unlike humans, we can do it humanely and show them the love and trust they show us. It is hard, prayers sent.

I helped my girl over the bridge a few years ago.

Best dog ever, hurt me to the bone. Had her cremated and buried her with my gram when she passed away. Only dog to ever sleep on her bed.

Best gram and dog ever. Good luck!

People don't get the bond between dog and owner. They are family.
